Kennedy Meadows weekend ride

When: Friday, July 18, 2014 - Sunday, July 20, 2014

Where: Troy Meadow "overflow" campground

Why: This area has the largest concentration of meadows in the state, possibly the country. I think I read this somewhere.

FIREWOOD
PLEASE BRING AT LEAST ONE BUNDLE OF FIREWOOD PER PERSON FOR THE WOOD PILE.

There is miles and miles of gorgeous single track. There's also plenty of forest service roads to explore. If you prefer to stick to the pavement there's plenty to see for you too. Up and over Sherman Pass to the Kern River Hwy. A left turn here takes you to the town of Kernville. A right turn takes you north towards Johnsondale and into the very scenic Giant Sequoia National Monument.There is something for everyone up there.

My son and I will be trailering the DR with the Jeep and arrive Friday afternoon.

As we all know sometimes we can't have campfires up there due to fire restrictions. I just finished researching restrictions for this year and found out Troy Overflow is considered a "developed campground". So, a campfire is allowed with a fire permit. Troy overflow is listed on Exhibit C (page 2 of 2).

EVERYONE who is coming needs to print, complete, and sign a campfire permit. This allows you to have a gas lantern and stove at your particular tent site. So, in short, anyone who plans on using a lantern, stove, or BBQ needs one or risk a $5,000 fine and/or up to (6) months imprisonment. Click link below to get one. Additionally, in years past a ranger will stop by in the morning to chat with us and probe ALL bikes for USFS approved spark arrestors. It would suck if he asked to see your campfire permit as well.

Campfire Restrictions In Effect

The Sequoia National Forest, Tule River Reservation, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) within the Central California District (CND) recently announced an Interagency Declaration to impose fire restrictions for all Federal and State protected lands within Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties effective Wednesday May 21, 2014.
In the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument campfires and barbecues are only allowed in developed campgrounds or areas designated as exempt from fire restrictions.
Visitors are allowed to have a portable gas stove or lantern (with a flame on/off switch) outside developed or designated areas with a valid California campfire permit. A campfire permit can be obtained, free of charge, at any Forest Service, CALFIRE, or Bureau of Land Management office.

Saturday night taco dinner "interested" list:

Dang! Sorry Chris. I hear a severe summer hay fever will be approaching in July. I'm an "every other weekend dad" and have my son for this ride.

I've ridden up there on my CRF450R & my XR650L and it's really fun. I just picked up a plated CRF450X and am looking forward to this kind of riding. This might be fun.

Hi Jeff This is open to all. Everyone needs to make sure their bike has a USFS approved spark arrestor. A ranger usually shows up at camp in the morning to probe all the bikes.

Dirt bike guys like the ones that don't do rocks will hate it, dual sport guys who like it all will love it. The woops will let you know what shape your fork seals are in.

I was more concerned that it might be more 650 & up kinda bikes. That doesn't lend itself to hitting the rocks so much. Just wanted to know if I should bring my dirt bike... or the minivan for the ride wiseass.

My 650R did just fine on every hard trail up there.
