Jimmy Lewis is teaching again!!

They're baaaack! Just got an email from Heather Lewis that the Jimmy Lewis Off road School is back up and they are teaching locally. There is a two-day off road class scheduled for the weekend of May 15-16 right near Lake Isabella, east of Bakersfield. Cost is $600, but everyone says it's the best farkle you can ever get for your bike.
I imagine the class would fill up soon, so hopefully there's still room left-. If there is, I'm definitely going. Who's with me?!

I must be old... it was 6 years ago that I took a JL class.

What bike will you ride in the class?

Take the smallest one you've got.

Yamaha TW200 (plates)

or

Honda TL250 ? (green sitckered)

xr400 and 640E, but i was told by another inmate to bring the tw200....:huh

During the class you shut off your motors for instruction all the time, so, I'd bring the 640 because of the electric start.

The smaller the bike the more you will be able to push it when doing the drills. The easier it will be when you push too far. And the more you will get out of the class.

Take the bike you would for adventure riding most of the time or that you want to become more skilled with. Unless you've never ridden that particular motorcycle before, JL kind of tailors his teaching, tips and drills to the bike your on anyway. And don't worry about electric start or not. If you get tired of kicking your crank bike, Heather will come over and get it started for you!! F#*kers, don't ask me how I know!!oser

I don't know if I want to pay $600 to ride my TW200 up and down hills, and I sure as shit DON'T WANT TO RIDE my R1150GS up and down hills.
That's just me, I'm kinda $ edgy right now and turning 60 next week and it's freakin' me out.

Spend hundreds of dollars on the class, gas, food and lodging (all this could add up to $ 900.00 easy)...

Deal with 'performance riding' and trying to learn something...and then deal with kick starting your bike about twenty times . Boy, does THAT sound like a GREAT idea .

Almost all the ADV bike that I know are electric start... FYI I rode my BMW HP 2 for the class and it was a GREAT learning experience. I would have NEVER have taken my Honda XR 650 R. Maybe,... I'm to smart for my own good.

It may sound like good advice... but JL recommends a smaller bike if you have one.

That's because Jimmy's six years older too since you took his class. That pic above when I took class where he's lifting the bike with the rider on it on a hill...I'd sure as hell want you on a smaller bike too!. Damn things get heavier every year.

I'll change my advise to the lightest, electric start motorcycle that you can bring...

You will learn something, no matter what you ride.

This may have nothing to do with what you're talking about but maybe you guys can help me. I have an ex-military Humvee and a Baja bug both with standard transmissions. I want to start off-roading the Humvee but have never driven a stick shift car nor have I ever been off-roading. Which car do you suggest I learn these skills in?

The Baja bug will be the cheaper of the two to lean on. Clutch is easier to get at too.
