Have ridden in SE Oregon and Nevada a few times, awesome riding. Looks like I need to include Idaho. Thanks for the mud warning.
Very nice IDRDR. Guess who? I know where that Owyhee mud comes from, I was there, but how did you get all that green on your bike? So are we done on dirt for the year? Snow??
About time EP chimes in here. Done in the dirt? Don't think so. Snow ya! Where's your pics? Post them up.
Great shots ID, I can't wait to get back to Idaho next summer. That mud looks bizarre!! Thanks for posting up. I am looking forward to more.
Thanks RP. Have you ever hiked through clay that just builds and builds on your boots? It's kind of like that. GUMBO is I think the actual scientific soils name for it. And it's an apt term. Shlt sticks and sticks. Tire traction goes away almost immediately unless you can keep the tires moving fast enough to blow the mud off (good luck). Stay away in spring right after snowmelt, or after lots of rain when the upper layers are saturated with water. More will come, but it may be a while.
My dad used to ranch in that area, I remember him coming to town once in the spring when it was wet. He chained up all four tires, it took him 10 hours to drive the 50 miles to pavement. It's a good place to be from when its raining.
I am a geologist and spent time doing mineral exploration there in the 80s. Great area for riding. Going back is on my bucket list.
Done for the year hell!!! I made it out there in december 2 weekends and one so far in January. I am hoping to get out there on sunday again. Sorry no pics. Would have been good though. Checked out the Owyhee Ridge horse trap off of leslie gulch, I guess they've been trapping horses there for over a hundred years, cool place. I went out with an aspiring dual sporter, I was on my new to me DRZ and he was on his 1977, beat to shit, honda 125 trail. What a great time

You guys are killing me! I was out with empty pockets for a snowmobile ride a couple weekends ago. We didn't even get onto the trail and out of nowhere an out of control chick slams into me. Broken femur. Life Flight. Down for a long time and right when the riding out there is reported to be awesomeperfecto. Keep posting some up, please.
Hunted out there many times, you think that muds bad on a bike try a F350 with a horse trailer... :eek1 Chains and shovels for the day....... :) Dave (New guy) Taylor
I dig this thread, and miss the Owyhee's It's been a dozen or so years since I lived in Boise, and those mountains were my favorite weekend getaway. I can't wait to get there on the KLR.
A few pic before the smoke moved in, I think that was July..... I'm so ready for cooler smoke free days....
Time to revive an old thread. @TheAdmiral You willing to lead a little expedition to Dickshooter? Been trying to get up the gumption to head south. Not sure if I can pack enough gas.
