I have a K60 scout on my 950 right now. It's halfway gone. I'd like a more aggressive rear for the off road stuff. What are some of you using ?
For tough off road stuff, I'll spoon on a Tereflex and air it down to 8psi. WARN anyone behind you to "Stay back 200 ft".
This was my first thought. I've run through two 908s, after several Mefos. about 2500-3000 miles each, but worth it in the dirty. But then.......... :eek1:eek1:eek1 Wow!! Maybe next Summer....
I have a k60 I'm gonna throw on since my Mefo is toast. Ran a couple 908's and loved them but didn't love the mileage. Only got about 1500 out of mine. Teraflex is next on my list to try.
Just me and my opinions MEFO Stonemaster, serious knobby, DOT rated, have not experienced it yet. Terrorflex: rides like a truck tire (4 ply), really need to down pressure like CJ says. Crap hard terrain tire. Absolutely scary on hard surfaces like paved roads. 908: expensive, seems OK on hard terrain. I really don't like it much on my 690 when powering through corners, tends to hook up and release in a on/off fashion TKC80: decent on road and off, side wall is flimsy, wear out quickly if you are hard on the throttle.
CJ's got a Black Friday Special o n The Heidenau K60 Scouts: http://www.cjdesignsllc.com/specials/2-tire-sale/
I have been running the Pirelli Scorpion Rally on the rear and I like it, hooks up in everything, affordable, stiff, only ok on pavement, cant figure out how to ease up on the throttle to make it last though
200 feet minimum plus the ruts they leave swallow smaller bikes. :eek1 this is from experience trying to follow Craig and company on his rides.
My crazy friends love those, but they don't last many rides. I just buy 908 when they go on sale. For the 690 I am really liking the scorp rally's.
I'm going to give yet another shout out for the Teraflex. I'm running one right now on my dirt wheels. I've found that they are much more predictable in the corners when riding agressively in the dirt when compared to the 908. I bought a pair of Teraflex tires in the 150/90 size a few years ago and am currently on the second one. I also found that this tire is scary on the pavement, especially when they're brand new. However, I'm applying lessons learned from the first one I wore out. The mistake I made was taking a trip to Vegas from Sacramento in the middle of the hot season. Spending hours and hours riding in a straight line on the pavement is almost unavoidable and the tire got a bad "flat top" right in the middle of the tread. That tire was always going to be scary in the corners. With my current Teraflex, I've been riding it very agressively in the corners when on the pavement in an effort to even out the wear and this is working quite well. Either I've gotten accustomed to the tire or it's actually gripping better in the corners. I suspect that it's some of both. I'm certainly not dragging footpegs on the black top but I am cornering just as hard as I would be with a 908 and am perfectly comfortable with it.
I'm running a Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T and am finding it to be superior to the Dunlop 606 both offroad and on.
