Can you ride a big bike on the beach in the Outer Banks?

I am a busy man. I am so busy that I barely have time to replace my final drive when it gets worn down. But, most importantly, I do change my TKCs often.

Honestly, my bike rarely even ventures out of my 5 mile radius.

But today was different.

I woke up this morning with an aching in my heart and a nagging question in my brain.

Can you ride a big bike on the beach in the Outer Banks???

I said goodbye to my wife, wondering if I'd return to see her again. I have a pic, but, of course, it's NSFW.

Then I went and uncovered my sorry excuse for a V-Strom...

I cruised down the strip like I always do, past all of the big adventure bikes parked at Starbucks.

I blasted under the river...

About 45 minutes later, I arrived in the OBX...

Man, these roads are exciting.

They're so much more fun in the summer...

Such good riding to be had in the OBX, if you know whatimean...


Don't you hate it when people answer their own questions?

Wasn't there a law passed recently that you can't ride a motorcycle on the beach in the Outer Banks?

beach and I remember what the combination of sand and saltwater did to my sprockets and chain and whatnot ...
Shaft drive on a beach would be O.K. but I'd never subject my precious DR to that sand/salt combo ... I mean it's a metal-eating monster!
Sure as hell looks like fun though ...

Hey, that's a thought; I should ride the GS out there one of these days.

My first bike was a brand new Yamaha Enduro 100. I was 14 years old and in heaven. One weekend I loaded it into my cousins pick up truck and off to Galveston we went on a beach bash/fishing trip.

I had a blast riding that bike all over the beach. Within 2 days of returning home everything on the bike was rusting including the silver colored head and black exhaust pipe... :eek1

I was devistated... One of my gear head buddies came over and we managed rub the rust off of the rims and spokes and then we painted the head and pipe with black rustoleum...

:huh Looked OK I guess... Before I could burn the paint off of the head and the pipe I promptly sold that Yamaha and bought a Honda XL 100 never to be seen anywhere near salt water again.

I hope your beechend does not result in damage to your bike...

thought this was about a "big" bike on the beach? What is it a 650.

The bike is completely toast as of today. The final drive is rusted through completely and the staintune can looks like an '85 Caddy that survived 25 Detroit winters.

My wife told me I was an idiot for even thinking about this whole adventure.

Any help from you wise guys would be greatly appreciated.

I may never venture out again.

This is what worked for me... Fix the bike as best you can and as cheap as you can, sell it, buy another bike and move on. May all of your future beach adventures be fresh water...

What kind of a moran are you? That bike of yours is toast. I wouldn't even give you two bills for it.

Those really looked like some tantalizing roads you were on. I'm sure the riding around OBX is like...no...where...else.
