howdy, has anyone bought the rally raid 5 litre auxiliary fuel tank? has anyone fitted it in conjunction with the safari tank?
After a case saver for the 690,anyone got any feedback, also any non oem bearing kits available for swingarm/linkage pivots that are good quality?
Bearings at http://www.allballsracing.com/ http://www.bboffroad.com.au/ktm__690.htm It'll take a 16 tooth as well.
How have you fixed the tool tube? I made one once for a KLR659 and it lasted 2 days into a long trip before brealing off and scattering my tools
+1 for the B&B case saver. Heaps less crap build up, can see the teeth of the sprocket, and it takes about 2 minutes to remove, including the time taken to chase the bits around the floor of the garage. And it cleans really easily too.
It's my answer to cheap ABS. But possibly without the 'A' one day . The tube is as tough as ... well..... Aluminium tube . It's thick and strong and waterproof. It's done 22000k now. When an oil change happens, it stays mounted to the bashplate. I'd been expecting the worst to happen after i 'manufactured' and fitted it. The front tire when new DOES come up under HARD fork compression and abrades the canister where the two entities meet. My fear initially was that lockup, closely followed by endo death would occur but it's never even come close. I've used a couple of 8mm stainless bolts with an inner 'backplate' of 4mm strap across the holes in the alu cylinder. This, besides the innertube washer acts as a malleabley deformable compression washer. The mounting is 'flexibly rock solid' so to speak These simply mount to the very strong b@b bashplate and are gasketed by a double layered piece of innertube both inside and outside of the ALtube/bashplate which then affords excellent vibrational damping and waterproofing within the tube. A couple of $12 pvc stormwater pipe caps at each end and and bob's yer uncle. :)
I recently saw some highway dirt bike guards fitted to a 950 super enduro, and plan to get some for my 690 some day. Solid looking guards, and a really nice foldaway mirror system (optional extra). http://highwaydirtbikes.com/
I went for a short ride on my 690 the other day. In fact, it was the first time I'd ridden it out of town since I broke my collar bone in March. Anyway, I thought I had plenty of fuel range left in the tanks and didn't worry about re-fueling. Lucky Dobbo was with me. The fuel warning light came on and, with the standard tank only, that's an indication of about 50km until empty. I simply assumed that the safari tank would give me around 100km, so I'd get to Albury no drama. It ran out at 72km on the low fuel odometer. Dobbo grabbed a plastic bottle - from the side of the crystal highway - and we transferred about 2 litres from his DR. Things you learn. And I'm annoyed that someone has put a mirror into the handguards. Another one of those things that I've 'thought of' that 6 months later I see someone is producing. Good luck to them.
I am after some info on the spec/procedure to do this on my 690,the bikes got 16000kms on it and i would like to check them, any info would be great.
Hopefully not too long until I make the move to the 690 from my beloved 990s. Had my first test ride today and loved it, looking forward to the lightweight power. Planning a Rally Raid fairing and tanks set up with touratech pannier racks and Scotts damper and max risers. Can't wait, money is in the bank just gotta wait for the right 2010 secondhander or a newie from Dalby. Bring it on
Johnno, this might also be of some help. It's 12mb but worth the download in my opinion. http://www.syndicatecentral.com/Garconis/smc/manuals/2008_690Enduro_Repair_Manual.pdf Cheers
