Hyper Motard Check In

Finaly got to see the new Hypers this past weekend at the Charlotte IMS. With the exception of the exhaust I think that it's a good looking bike. I'm really interested in the Hyperstrada version. The bike's apearance still holds true to its supermoto inspired roots. Way to go Ducati.

My mates 2008 HM speedo from the 19th of January.

Any of you guys know of a fix?

Did he actually hit 99,999 km and stop counting? Possibly an ECU reflash? Best bet would be over on Ducati.ms under the Hyper section. Lots of guys in the Hyper know-how over there.

Question for those in the know: There is a 2010 Hyper SP with the CalWorks Tank, sliders and a few other bits for sale in my area. It looks to be a consignment sale and the bike has about 7K miles. The asking price is $10K. Is this a reasonable price for a bike with these mods?

I've been drooling over the Hyper since it came out and always talk myself out of it: not practical, Ducati maintenance, not what I need, blah blah blah. Since I am divorced now, and only have to consider what I like for myself, a tasty, impractical bike is high on my list. Is it worth it to drop this much coin for a bike that is soon to be "previous generation"? I still have my SV1000n decked out for sporty touring, which is a hoot, but the motor sometimes overwhelms the chasis. I'd like something a little sharper for tooling around/hooliganism/lady hunting.

Does someone have to rationalize it for you?
That bike was $14.5k new. The big tank is $700 or $800 plus there are other somewhat spendy parts you have to add to put it on the bike. So there is more than $5300 off the price of new plus just the tank. Probably several hundred more!

I love my 2010 SP & would have loved to save that $4500 & buy a 7K mile bike. My bike has never suffered from any of the somewhat common low speed running or high speed handling complaints.

I'd jump on it. What bike is "practical"? They all suck when the weather is bad. If we wanted practical we'd all be driving econo-box cars. Maintenance is stupid simple...valve adjustments require a shim kit but you don't have to spend big bucks at a dealer on simple belt replacements and service interval work. Download the Ducati service manual (shop manual) and it walks you through the entire thing. Biggest peeve is that everything is in metric so I have to keep a NM --> Ft/lbs converter open in the background on my laptop.

Or you could get a torque wrench that was made after 1980?
