New to me, I pick it up next week. Anybody know anything about these things? Looks like a XR250 on roids. I did a search, not much turned up....
Early to mid-80s XR... basically a XR250R on roids... heavier but with more travel. Solid and fun. Below is the vitals on the 1983 model, however, I believe front disc brakes really didin't show up until 1984. I also provided the 1983 XR250R specs as well. I believe the hp ratings maybe a typo for both. I've seen the XR350Rs with around 31-32hp and the XR250R with around 20-22hp in other places. Hope this helps some... These were only made 83-85, when Honda inexpictedly decided to discontinue production. The 83,4 had dual carbs, while the 85 went to a single. The 85 had a slight bump in displacement at 353 cc. These, especially the 85, are great little trail bikes. You'll find more info over at thumper talk. Here's mine:
funny to see this posted maybe it's a sign . There is one of these for sale locally an 84 for $750 decent looking bike in the picture especially for an 84 I've owned older xr's before (an 86 xr600) and they are good trail riding bikes how does $750 sound for this bike?
Lets see a pic. Does it have the pimp-daddy enduro speedo/ elapsed timer? This may have only been on the 85's. As for price, I'd try to get him closer to $500, as it will need something; even if running.
Fun bikes, although a little heavy. I had a 83 xr350r and an 85 xl350. Dual carbs are pain to tune, but have good power. I think they went to front disc in 84 and single carb in 85, if i remember correctly. My only complaint was that if the bike was hot it was a pain start.
Good bikes really-I have an extra set of dual carbs.... buddy had an '85 and it was very nice in its day-zero problems and it had decent lighting for night trails I believe the 350 motors were more a downsized 500 than a larger 250-not a bad thing.
I belive that is correct. I like all dual carbed XL & XRs but factory jetting is too lean which lead to problems run them rich and they last. I would also recommend a later model XR250 or 400 oil cooler. you didnt say what year it is.
I rode this this bike a year ago, didn't buy then. Guy comes back a year later, lower price, I do a barter deal for the bike even. He's away for the holiday, I can't get it until monday. I seem to remember the digital setup on the handlebars, and don't remember it having two carbs, but I could be wrong. The guy who I'm buying it from is only like 5'5", so he doesn't ride it much. He has fixed most of the issues on the bike, like new plastics, tires, cables, carb rebuild, etc..... When I rode it, I was impressed by how "snappy" it was for a 350. Now I can't wait to pick it up, so I know what the hell year it is, and get a pic up here for you. It's a pretty clean machine. Thanks for all the help.
I had a friend who had the dual carb version. He absolutely hated it, because the carbs were such a pain. He still bitches about that bike. I don't know if it's possible to convert it to a single carb, buy you may want to take that into consideration.
my 86 xr600 had dual carbs I never had any problems and yes it did seem to have more power than my single carbed 94. And no it doIesn't have the fancy digital tripometer. it does have a speedo though. We'll see I emailed the guy for his bottom dollar I was thinking no more than $600 thats if the bike runs as good as the ad claims. I was planning a tear down with all new bearing repaint the frame and some new plastics.
I had an 84 XR350 - neat bike - dual carbs were a bit of a pain. I sold it to a friend of mine and he rode it for about a year before it blew up (may have been running too lean) - he said finding parts for these old XR350's was getting difficult so he's switched to a DR400.
I have an 84 xr500 and parts seem easily accessed-since it's way low on the priority list-it prolly won't get its new piston for awhile. Tell ya when she was right it was close to my 525 on the bottom-and made my buddy's 02-xr400 feel like a mini bike-but the ktm kills it up top. I think it'll make a good ds bike once freshened up-solid old scoot. Keep us posted on the 350! It does look alot like an xr400...parts interchange!!!
The 85 is the way to go. It had a dry sump oil system instead of the wet sump on the 83, 84 models. The 85 runs cooler and had a lot less bottom end problems than the wet sump models. There were many changes to the 85 that made it better than the previous models. I had a 85 and loved it! Hodakaguy
I had an 84 XR350 years back - opened the breathing and rejetted it. Started every time on 2nd kick and turned out to be a great deep woods bike. Pulled like a tractor and was stone reliable. Buddy had an 85 350 but the ergos of the 84 fit me better (6'4 240) Great bike and wish I still had it

Picked it up today - 1985, one carb, dry sump, electric speedo thingy, aluminum swingarm, new IRC knobs, they look pretty good. It's got the regular dirt bike rash, but overall runs pretty good, doesn't idle real well, but we've yet to even look at it yet. Now to get it torn apart, dual sported, and ready for some spring fun! I'm sure I'll have questions along the way.......
