Newby wanting to ride to Classic Bike Show Glory Beach Resort Hotel in Port Dickson
Hi Guys
Just bought a 2004 Caponord and looking to ride into Malaysia either Friday night or early Sat stay over night somewhere and visit the Classic Bike show Sunday before riding home. Anyone doing similar or interested in joining? I have no experience in Riding Malaysia and the Cap is a new bike story altogether for me. Have a DR650 in Aus so big difference. I am competent on the road speed is flexible up to about 140 dirt roads may be different to begin. ![]() Fred |

Would like to meet up have a chat about what mods you've done to the Capo. I find the heat from the motor and the exhaust sysytem make it difficult(really impossible in office clothes) to commute on. Would appreciate any ideas. Also would like to talk about who serviced it for you? This one has not been well looked after and I need to get a good baseline service and tune. Went up the East Coast to Kuantan on Sat and then across to the Malaysia Classic bike show at Port Dickson and back Sunday. Motor cut at one stage for no reason no lights on the dash. From then on EFI light was coming on at regular intervals had to stop wait restart go. Thankfully made it back. Needs a good setup before I can do a bigger run hey! I'm out of town for a while so if iots okay I'll PM when I'm around Fred |

Hi.Fred,
I've replied your PM. The capo was a.good bike, light, powerful, except being a.Japanese faithfull rider,I find some.of the design on the engine and computer abit odd. I dont feel heat issues on the bike,so wearing my best clothing dont have any discomfort. But,hey,I've installed leovince aftermarket exhaust. Its the best upgrade for the Capo. I did.add.handlebar riser to it.Just felt that the stock handlebar needs to be replace to AT bar,but didnt have the chance bcoz i sold it then. The only downside.I.have on the bike.is.the fuel.consumption.Since I got it,i could only get 13-14km/ltr.Its quite irritating though.I guess its the same consumption throughout all the Capo, becoz another expat also pm me at sbf regards the FC. I didnt plan to.sell the bike.though,I left it at some bikehop to get the rims.powdercoated.Somehow a.walk-in customer shown interest in the bike, and price was irrisistable. Cheers

Tubliss anyone?
Hello Singapore Riders!
Have any of you heard of the Tubliss system.....basically converts spoked wheel mounted tyres to tubless for dirtbikes. The company website is http://tubliss.com/ My question is: Would anyone know if this available in Singapore? If so where? I live in India and it's exhorbitent to have it sent over from US by mail. I have some friends going over to Singapore next week. If I know the address of the shop in Singapore, they could bring it over for me. Thanks.

Singapore Adventure
Hello Everyone!
I hope to be joining you in Singapore if I get past the final hurdles with a company there. It would be a longer term position and would involve travel in the surrounding contries. I own several motorcycles in the US from a lean Ducati to a bulky Harley and a versatile KTM 950. but with the prices in Singapore that does not look to be very practical so I'm in search of a good all around motorcycle that would do well commuting and getting around in Singapore and do well for trips up into Malaysia/Thailand and beyond occassionally. The bike that has caught my attention the most at this point is a Triumph 800XC. It is similar to my KTM 950 Adventure, little less power and suspension is not as adjustable but it certainly seems that it would do the job around Singapore and be well suited for bad roads in Malaysia/Thailand while being able to carry enough of a load and make good time on the highways on the return trip when hurrying back to work. Thoughts are to pick up a slightly used one here and go through the importation process there with expenses estimated at around..

Hi - best of luck in your relocation. You will definitely save some $ bringing in your new bike and as long as you have the right documentation its not that bad a process... but its a process. You must have the original documentation that the bike *(by vin #) has passed US road testing, including any after market exhaust system. Original docs only including export documents, all bills ... check out www.onemotoring.com.sg. Thats run by the LTA in Singapore which is the governing body and they have a downloadable checklist. Best to get in touch with Engineering Services at LTA - thats the dept that handles these imports and you can ask them to advise on your documentation before you by the bike - get some examples from the dealer in the US. If you miss any documents, and i mean ANY, then its a no go. I've brought a couple of BMWs in from the UK which is easier. As as US bike, speedo must have KMH on it, and if theres a right hand drive bias to the headlight you have to get it set to left hand drive bias. Local dealers wont honor the warranty unless you pay them an adoption fee (at least for BMW which is a $5k non refundable deposit, 20% loading and last priority for bookings!!!), yeah its crazy. but loads of independent mechs that can work on all sorts of bikes. it may be easier to pick up a used ride check out www.singaporebikes.com forum for sale adverts. prices are generally reasonable for used rides.
Insurance about $750 depending on the bike and safe rider discount, traffic is crazy in Singapore bikes are treated like flies but bigger bikes do get more visibility and lane space. Parking is not readily available unless your building provides it but loads of public parking outside the central business areas. i ride a F800GS for touring and light off road, mainly fire roads, logging trails, very occasionally something rougher, which you should consider unless your looking for heavy duty offroad. most of the stuff in malaysia and thailand is good for the on/off road riding that class bike handles, much like the triumph i would imagine. you dont get 100miles of ridable offroad at a stretch so you would want something that will be fun on tarmac as well - nice "mountain" road riding north malaysia and southern thailand. lots of rain and mud so the bigger bikes are tougher off road for me. bring proof of bike ownership and insurance coverage when you come to do the license conversation as we have a three bike class license here. i think you only have to take the highway code. hope this helps and good luck. |
