I just received a set of Hella FF50 driving lights as well as a set of PIAA 510 Super White driving lights. I am going to mount both up, but have 2 questions. 1) The FF50s didn't come with any wiring diagram or wires installed. On the back of the lights there are 2 unmarked terminals for the wires. A positive and negative is needed, but there is no marking at all to match up the wiring with the bulb. Does the polarity matter at all? 2) The PIAA 510s come with a huge wiring harness and a switch that goes to a relay of some sort. I have already relayed a Centech that I want to wire these lights into. Can I just wire the positive wire of the switch in to the same spot that I will wire the main positive wire for the set of lights? Can you see this causing a problem at all? Thanks!
I shot an email. Send a copy back with your address and I'll scan my instructions for the hella ff50's and email it to you. John
Thanks for the FF50 files, that is what I needed. So for the other question, is there any harm with connecting the switched relay power lead into the same spot as the full power lead on this PIAA harness? I don't need to tap in to another spot with these lights since my Centech is already relayed.
You need the relay in the harness to protect your switch. Very few switches can handle the amps your lights will draw. eventually the switch will fail, either blow out, or fuse the lights on all the time. Jim
The relay is still in the harness, but what I will be doing is connecting the switch lead in the same spot as the power lead (on the Centech) to avoid having to tap in to some other powered wire on the bike somewhere.
