That's Uncle Grumper's Challenge. He doesn't post much, but you might try a Google search. There is one ride report with some video of the bike here at ADV. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809978&highlight=uncle+grumpers
Sorry for another question for which I am sure the answer is posted somewhere but I have not been able to find it. I am going through my new to me Xch with oil changes etc.... Is there an oil filter to use in replacement of the OEM one that is readily available from a good manufacture? Just looking to save a few bucks. I can buy the o-ring from the dealer separately if I need it. Thanks.
What stands do you guys use/prefer for performing maintenance. The X is my first bike without a center stand. We have a XChallenge and a XCountry in the family and would like a stand/lift that would work for both bikes if possible. Thanks, A.W.
It does, maybe a good excuse to look for XCh take-off for the Country? Is the stock XCh strong enough? I have a synthetic Hyde Racing skid plate over the stocker on the XCh. Thanks for the info!
I have the large Touratech slidplate and its been on a MX stand. I put a center stand on it, so now no need to lift it.
I had one ..I can tell it it 100% NOT waterproof despite the claims even in new condition .It's a nice mud plow and catches shit well and your tools all rust up. I had the clips break a few times but he did send me replacement parts for free so the after service is good. I fitted a hasp n staple with a padlock to be shore. I am thinking of building another XC this time I will buy the standard guard with holes in
I had a SW Motech center stand and removed it because it kept getting hung on rocks. It's not such a big deal for the Challenge but a 650 Dakar I was riding with came down hard and bent the center stand enough that it fouled the rear suspension linkage. The rider managed to make field repairs with off the shelf bolts. My skid plate setup is the Hyde over stock setup. During LAB2V I smacked a rock hard enough to gouge the Hyde and deflect the bottom of the stock skid plate just bit. I'll hammer it back into shape and put it back. The stock plate is more than strong enough to support the bike on a stand. m
Thanks for the feedback Kito. I wouldn't expect or count on the toolbox to be waterproof - I saw the claim as new, but I certainly am not going to rely on it being watertight (for long) - just like my panniers on my GSA.. I guess living in the relatively dry west US, the rusting will be easier to avoid. Funny I did have a bunch of tools rust on my trip to AK this summer on my GSA . All good food for thought...
If you are after premium quality at higher than average Hiflo, K&N, Champion etc prices (but still probably cheaper than OEM), try these: Mann MH 65/1 Mahle Knecht OX 119 (I use these and they are very, very good!) Otherwise: HiFlo HF151 K&N KN151
Anyone use KTM folding mirrors on their X? Thinking about ordering some but I am not sure what size to get. I think 243mm?
I've been meaning to post this for some time. Since the battery on the XCo is diffcult to access quickly, I have wired-in a fish trolling motor connecter that greatly facilitates jump-starting the bike or giving someone else a jump. The set-up is simply connecting and attaching a receptacle to the bike that is wired to the battery. Then, fabricated jumper cables with the mating trolling connector on one end and pinch clamps on the other makes jump-starting a convenient task. I've done the same thing with other bikes. This is not expensive and it works great. Two-pronged electric trolling motor receptacle available at most marine supply stores. Extended leads with terminals installed The mating trolling motor connector attached to heavy (8ga+) wires with pinch clips. Receptacle attached to bike with positive wire routed up to the battery terminal and negative wire to ground. Connectors plugged-up when in use. Cables stored in tail pack.
