Not if you can see the top of the oil. Get too much deeper and you can start problems.

Simply hot gluing a hook piece of velcro strap to the cap and a piece of loop to the tube will do the same thing and is easier to use.

Street or dirt, that is a lousy place for a tool tube.

First of all do you have it on a stand when you check it? It should be on a stand on level ground.

The oil level should be between the two little grooves you can see at the sides of the window.

Remember it's 1400cc if you change the filter as well. If you do not it's less. I usually put about 1100cc and then top it up slowly until the oil is in between the two grooves of the glass.

I would recommend draining the oil, be sure to wear a glove and don't drop the drain plug.

Thanks for the tip. I will see if the stainless clamps do ok. The end cap is glued on and the other end has a screw cap that I will keep an eye on.

Just a little video of a dual sport ride I did this weekend on my WR with some buds at the Williams Hill recreational area in the Hollister BLM area just south of King City, CA. Beautiful day riding with great people in an awesome setting.

Thanks. on level ground, but not on a stand. Managed to suck enough out, to where it's just above the upper notch. Gotta get out and ride with this nice weather. Will check it again in the morning. Thanks guys,,,

I'll definitely sneak up on it next time, instead of putting the whole amount in first.

Why would you pull the plug when you can open the fill plug and just lean it over

One of my favorite places! I'm there a few times a year on my GS. Looking forward to riding the Shafer on the MUCH lighter WR.

Just fitted the first one out of the mould--its a bit of an overkill on layers. Secured with 3M dual Lock--but can be bolted of course. I can do white, a vague blue or black. See earlier post 47179.

Not a perfect straight line down the middle or a perfect flush fit against the shroud--but its hand built!(hobby).

Note the front brake hydraulic connection is reversed to get the hose out of the way

Wish I could ride there every year. Personally don't think I'd ever want to ride there without a skid plate though - never know when gravel might do something unexpected.

Tons more pics if you're interested in my RR (below).

Probably incompatible with your clutch. Why risk it?

I use mobil1 4t. Oil is cheaper than clutches, transmissions and engines...

Well...I got a phone call from my best friend.....he said after looking at the 4 inch tool tube I made for the WR......it was the stupidist looking thing he has ever seen....he said he didn't know the WR was full of S%&*T and needed a septic tank cleanout.....so I made a 3 inch one with a better cap on the end...he called back and said it was better....I'm still gonna go out with his girlfriend when he's not in town :lol3[IMG][/IMG]

DIY projects are always fun IMHO...especially when they serve a good purpose! And like I said when I swapped tanks to the 4.7... it's for function, not looks. I remember the first time I saw these oversized, natural colored tanks thinking "no way"... Well, yes way - and I love it for what it does now.
