Has anyone in the USA received notification of the BMW re-call on the cracked fuel pumps fitting necks?

Still waiting and haven't heard anything.. perhaps I missed recent postings on this.

    Thanks,

Are they changing them in Europe? I had to put resin to fix the leak in my 06 GS

Seems they missed the initial projected date of February. My understanding is that BMW and NHSTA are not in agreement on the repair method.

In the BMW letter to NHTSA dealers were to be notified in Dec and owners from Feb to APRIL...so by April we all supposed to receive letters...

Kicker is that BMW "processed the first claim" for this type failure in frickin 2006!

Plus BMW says in the letter that it doesn't consider this problem a safety issue...and that they have no reports of fires..

Said it before..love to ride my GSA but BMW sucks...only care about you until you leave the store with your new bike...would never again buy a BMW product..

Funny, visited the Porsche and Mercedes Benz museums and then the BMW museum this last Spring...MB was by far the best; while BMW was less that friendly and reeked of corporate self-importance...Porsche was Porsche, but their race cars were beautiful!

Somebody please torch your BMW and send in pictures..would help if a person was still under the bike..:D

Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC
      <!--end left-->
      SUMMARY:

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 model year R-model motorcycles, model year 2005-2012 K-model motorcycles, model year 2010-2011 S 1000 model motorcycles, and model year 2006-2010 HP2 motorcycles. In the affected motorcycles, the fuel pump flange (and the auxiliary fuel pump flange if equipped) could develop cracks and leak fuel. CONSEQUENCE:

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. REMEDY:

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will either reinforce the fuel pump flange or replace the pump, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in February 2014. Owners may contact BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com. NOTES:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Ps...I just sent a request for information to the BMW customer relations email address listed above.

Ducati treated this the same way. No mailed or email notifications, even to first owners. It was also a fuel related issue, which IMHO is something necessary to communicate to a rider. In those models that were affected by the Ducati issue, the resale value took a dump.

Not to mention the reputation of the company. I'd wager BMW is following the same track.

I have a 2010 R1200GS still under warranty and in my communication with BMW customer service getting the vin transferred from the original owner to my name, despite the NHTSA report BMW deny there is a recall on these bikes. Talked about a voluntary recall, that if there was a problem take your bike to a BMW dealer and they would review it on an individual basis. I don't have cracks but was trying to deal with it before the cracks appeared. If you have visible cracks I would print out the NHTSA report head to your BMW dealer talk about threat of a fire, and hope for the best. BMW aren't on your side.
50,000 fuel pumps and/or reinforcing the flange + labor is big $ 's to them and they will avoid it any way they can. :norton

Last week i asked my dealer about recall, i was wondering why they did not inform us about that (i am first owner). They said it should be fixed on next service visit, or if we are aware about it and call them to make appointment - nice after sales !!
    Sorry for my incorrect english.

We spent a week in Kranjska Gora last Spring...what a great place and wonderful folks! The Julian Alps are second to none.

Let us know if your BMW dealer notifies you or you get a letter from BMW to come in...thanks.

Yes I have heard that other Countries including South Africa have the recall in progress. The USA "NADA" and the most bikes are here so the most $ BMW will have to put out, a connection there ? Your English is great ! Thank you for the information.
