Hello hello everybody Here Maggie again! You know, from the Blond Dutch Chick goes Long Way East thread: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=715670&highlight=blond+dutch+chick In short: I went from The Netherlands to Mongolia on a F650GS (June 2011), broke my ankle in Numrug Mongolia (8 July 2011), came back by plane, and within 2 months I bought myself a BMW X-Country!! Why an X-Country? The F650GS is just to heavy for extreme off road (though it was not the cause for my crash). But still. Hyperpro Bas (Alphen ad Rijn) and Walter - Sibirsky Extreme - Colebatch gave me the advice to buy an X-Country. I would have loved an X-Challenge, unfortunately such a bike is way to high for traveling for me. Haha I'm just a short girl...1m63cm :eek1 Anyway.... The bike was bought and plans had to be made!! Together with Walter and Bas, we made a plan (hahaha they made a plan, I had to provide the money). Walter made me the list below: - Hyperpro fork conversion WP 48mm forks, triple clamps - Hyperpro 461 fully adjustable rear shock - Hyperpro Haan Front 21 x 1.6 Excel wheel - Hyperpro Haan Rear 18 x 2.15 Excel wheel - Hot Rod Welding 9.5 litres X Tank - Hot Rod Welding Protection Parts - Hot Rod Welding Fairing - Hot Rod Welding X-Rack - Scheffelmeier Adventure bash plate - Scheffelmeier Case Saver - Scheffelmeier wheel spacer - Adv Spec Barkbusters - Adv Spec Double Take Mirrors - Adv Spec Unifilter and prefilter - Touratech chain guide - Rayz Seat - Oxford heated grips - Adv Spec Sibirsky Extreme luggage - Touratech radiator protector Most of the parts I ordered directly and/or called with Erik (Hot Rod) and Ray (Rayz Seat) to make an appointment. Walter arranged the forks for me, and got me in contact with Adventure Spec. Thankzz Walter!! And off I went to Hyperpro Bas, to change the original forks, the wheels and of course, the suspension. Hyperpro purple it must be Old forks No forks New forks and disabled headlight Bas working on the bike This is the first part of my X-Country rebuild Rally/Adventure bike!! The next part will be about Hotrod Welding!!! Erik is gonna make an extraordinary Rally fairing + Mount special fit for the X-Country!!! CU Laterzzz, kiss from The Netherlands, Maggie Extreme Zantstorm!!
Hey Maggie, good choice! Always take the bike that best fits you're size! I did, just sold my hp2 and will get a KTM 690 enduro cause its a better fit for my needs. Like a long offroad trip to Mongolia! Anyway, if someone can make suspension wonders its Bas! Keep on posting...
great to see you back in the saddle after the ankle injury! it probably seems like a long time for you, but boy, it sure doesn't seem that long ago i read your report about the accident. welcome back.
I spent A LOT of time in NL when I was stationed in Germany. I would give ANYTHING to be able to go back over there and RIDE!! Nice bimmer! Looking forward to following your thread! -James
Nice selection of parts Maggie! When it's done there won't be much X-Country left of it anyway, and I think you can actually get the X-Challenge plastics to fit as well? Walter or Bas should know the details, somebody had that done at Hyperpro. It's actually the "Magadan" luggage that is being developed (prototypes are already done?) by Colebatch, with the goal of addressing all the weaknesses that the currently available soft luggage has. Adventure Spec in the UK is just going to handle distribution for him since they have such a perfect setup already. Have a look towards the end of this thread, there are lots of pics and a description of the design, materials, functionality, etc. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=524638&
