Thanks for the flowers.:flug I hope they gave you an excuse to take a few second breather during all that hiking. The smiles on everyones faces is priceless. Looks like hard work but it sure look like you were all enjoying yourselves.

KustomizingKid - have fun! Baja is awesome :thumb
hi mamacone! thanks for joining us

Hey JustPaul - yeah, those guys really kicked butt. It was something. :ricky
Thanks, ladybug! you got me in the habit of checking for flowers.
It's nice. I enjoy it now.

Goggles! All right - linking your ass off! :clap
    Woo!
Heh, that's exactly the scene we were thinking of.
    So. thirsty.
    :knary

Day 2: 2/18/13 Gonzaga Bay to San Francisquito, continued
    191 miles

    Everyone was feeling hopeful.
    We’re almost there!
That’s just a little sand. We’re good. :clap

And then we saw this. :uhoh

    Crap.
I got off to go scout. :jive
Looking back at Goggles and BigWan.

    Rocky.

    Very rocky.

    Big ol’ chunks.

    Sigh.

The boys dug deep and then went for it...
    Go, Scott!!

Matt caught up to me. How you doin'?

    Damn you, Google Earth! :jerko

More ATGATT hiking. That’s Bartek up there...

Scott was still chipping away at it...

    Next up was Matt.

Bartek had been ready to assist when needed...:gdog

And Matt was going to return the favor.

El Bartek, psyching himself up. You can do it! :thumb

I’m pretty sure this is what mrdozer called the “What the f*** were we thinking” trail...

But, I still kinda like “Wan Way.” :evil

OK, NOW can we celebrate? We did it! Congratulations, everybody! :freaky

    Wooooo Hooooo!

    :rayof

We were feeling hopeful as we started to descend...

    So far, so good...

There was a wash at the bottom (of course) and it was full of deep sand.
Matt and I were so tired, we had a get off right here.

We didn’t really see a trail here, just trying to make our way towards the road.

Somewhere around here, we hit some deep, soft stuff and I got flung into a sage brush.
I smelled like sage for a while, but at least it wasn’t a cactus!

    Still looking for the road...

    Found it!

    Then lost it.

    Connecting the dots, remember?

    Here we go!
We popped out on the main road right here,
next to one of Coco’s warning signs.

Now we were on the way to Coco’s corner.

    There it is!

Three hours to go from Punta Final to Coco’s Corner.
Is that a record or something?

    :scratch

Only 173 more miles to go!!

    :lol3

LW, this was definitely the trail we took, or as I called it "the what the f@#k were we thinking trail" but I think the official name is the 8 mile trail. I ride rocks all the time at home for fun, crazy I know!! and this trail was all we wanted going down hill on small bike! great job riding up hill on big pigs! great pictures of the trail too! I only got two since I was busy hanging on for dear life!!

Yah, that's the trail, mine road or miners road I seem to recall Bill Nichols call it. It looks worse now than it did the last time up a couple years ago.

Serious kudos to you guys for riding up on those big beasts.

I'll be going up it in a month from...hmm...yesterday! I'll be starting early in the AM before the heat becomes a factor.

BTW, "YOINKING" is one of my favorite passtimes:evil

P.S. I see Dozer posted while I was typing so I guess the name of the trail is the "8 mile mine rd from hell, what the fuck were we thinking!"

Holy crap, I JUST now noticed that your ADV name is rnrdozer! :fpalm

All this time I've been calling you "mr. dozer" - I'm blind. :lol3
    Sorry! I blame Mr. Plow:

(pretty catchy, huh? maybe you'll consider a name change! :evil)

OK - 8 mile trail. :nod That's good to know. Thanks!
    I'll change the video titles.

Glad you like the pics! I know it's the last thing on your mind when you're out there.
Yep, fun stuff indeed! a highlight of our trip for sure.

Wait, I'm confused now. Mine Road is right?
    OK -
Haha, we'll go with your last one - "8 mile mine rd from hell, what the fuck were we thinking!"
    :lol3

Also - if YOINKING is one of your favorite pastimes, I guess that makes you an honorary WanKer! :evil
Have a great trip next month - make sure you do a ride report! :deal

    Thanks, guys! :D

That was an incredible bit of riding guys, i could not imaging trying or wanting to ride that on a big bike.

And, no, i don't want the tracks for this route!

Two more months and we are there!

    Spectacular route over the mountain!

You guys deserve some kind of award for taking on those stones - 2-up, 1-up - just getting those bikes through it PERIOD! :clap:clap:clap

2up sand whoops are a special kind of hell. And these were little baby whoops.

    Hi guys!

    Thanks for the kind words!
I know big rocks are always a crowd pleaser, haha!
Glad you're all along for the ride :freaky

Day 2: 2/18/13 Gonzaga Bay to San Francisquito, continued
    191 miles

    Coco's Corner

    Hope he has cold beer!

Obligatory ride report photos of Coco's stuff...

    Photos and license plates

Panties!! :kat Those giant ones made me laugh because I am 12.

    Awww, tarantulas. :cry

Back when we were dating, I gave Matt a pink toed tarantula.
(don't bother looking that up in the urban dictionary, it's an actual spider :nono :lol3)

Coco wasn't there, but the ladies behind the desk had cold beer.
    Ahhh. That's the stuff. :beer

What we really needed was water.
All they had left were a few of these stupid mini bottles ("chicos";).
    We'll take 'em!

I was looking everywhere for NSFW's "PYYPP" sticker,
but I never found the one at Coco's. :cry

Even looked in the ladies outhouse (though I'm sure Joel is too much of a gentleman to put one in there)

    no está aquí

    Oh well.
I did find a tiki! Uh oh. :uhoh
Hey, you guys - let's get out of here!

Before we left, Bartek put his blinker back together...

And then it was off to the Calamuje Wash.

    Zoom zoom!

Scott and Bartek went off ahead.

Everyone was happy to be ticking off some miles after this morning's slow work.

    Going down into the wash.

Hmm. Kind of blurry, but gives you the feeling of being there...

It was a nice change after all those rocks.

I wasn't looking forward to the next part (deep sand),
    but it wasn't that bad.

We sent Goggles and Bartek ahead...

    And made sand our favorite.
I had to ask Matt to stop for this photo.
It was too hard to ride and snap in this stuff...

I had expected worse so I was pleasantly surprised.

We still had a couple "oh shit" moments.
(here's looking back at one of them)

    But, overall we were pleased.

I think the other WanKers had fun, too.

Now it was on to Bay of LA.
We needed to feed the Bartek (and soon!)

    Burros!
    so cute.

There it is - Bahia de Los Angeles.

Fueled up. Matt also bought 4 more liters of water.

    Then, it was taco time!

El Bartek, working on tacos #26 and 27.

This one is probably #32. It was delicious! :yum

39 tacos down, 75 to go!

    Yes. :nod
We had 51 tacos in the first 2 days of the trip!! :eek1

You guys are so awesome, your rides never cease to amaze me. That one vid of Big Wan coming up that rock wash I think his tires were in the air more than they touched the rocks. To tackle the this stuff while laughing and smiling is insane and in the middle of nowhere....:freaky2up:eek1

And then to take the time to write up such awesome reports with cool click-able links...thanks thanks thanks

    1. I look forward to your reports; always a great adventure.
    2. I cannot believe the trails you guys ride two up.
    3. You have a wonderful sense of humor.
    4. You add a lot to each report that few do with respect to pictures and other "goodies" that speak to the occasion.
    5. You both always have a smile on your face.
