When did you realize you didn't care how fast you went?

Call it getting old, but I really don't give a rip about going fast. I like carving nice arcs like on a board, but I could care less about times....

I haven't had that realization yet.

About the time I learned to drive, and realized that the little Jetta I had was more fun to drive than my dad's 740. The 525 we found was more fun than both though. The conclusion? Fun is in the corners.

Ohhhhhh yeaaaaaa, done with straight line speed.... But the corners!!!!! Can't beat the rhythm of a great set of twisties..... We all know a few favourite spots where the red mist closes in, and you're lost to the gods of 'g' force...... Be safe, but enjoy......

About a year ago when I discoverd my bike wouldn't pull cleanly in top above 5500rpm.
I eventually tracked the problem down to a change I'd made to the carbs about 18months previous.
I've run it to redline in top since the fix but now I realise I don't really care if my dirt bike can pull 200kph + or not.

I'm not interested in attempting a top speed run (where I ride, that would be suicidal), but where it is safe to do so, I like to see if I can increase how much speed I can carry through the corners. I am nowhere near pushing my bike's limits but I feel like I need to push mine a little each time to improve my own capabilities.

Of course, the opposite needs to be true also, and I need to practice more how fast I can slow down. :eek1

You just need a different bike. The one you have is a great bike but it is like really good Vanilla Ice Cream. Get something with more flavor and the spark will return. Try a Triumph Triple or perhaps one of the new Yamaha Triples that will be out soon.

I don`t give a rip about how fast I`m going but apparently the Damn cops do!

Now at 54 years old, I tend to favor acceleration and cornering vs speed.
Love my SMR, but never had so many crashes though (like 2 in 6 months ...)

Going fast is fun. If it wasn't, I'd sell the bikes and walk around the neighborhood making 'vroom vroom' noises with my mouth.

Fast is getting old,corners are the fun part.
Thinking about a cbr250r for the near by canyon runs.
Be fun to have something i could wind up,and corner.
Instead of rideing through in 3rd gear all the way.

Corners and accelerating is where its at. This is only.my 3rd season of riding.

About 20 years ago, the speeding tickets started to taper off. These days, I sometimes find myself startled to realize I'm actually puttering through towns at less than the posted speed limit (gasp!).

It's not that I absolutely don't care about going fast, but I'm not obsessed with going fast all the time. Certainly on the track I want to go as fast as possible. I like winning. I may not win often, but I like the heck out of it when I do. But I've also thoroughly enjoyed puttering around on motorcycles enjoying the scenery. I'd rather slog along over a beautiful mountain pass, head swiveling to take in the scenery, than screaming through it focused on the roadway only. Generally speaking.

When I heard the clatter from a loose valve seat.

The number means nothing to me, its the FEEL of speed that turns me on.
I really enjoy a bike that feels really fast at lower speeds, and one I can abuse and get every last bit of performance out of, drafting, tucking in, working the shifter, planning ahead.
