I admit it, I have been inspired by Alton Brown's show Feasting on Asphalt, so I have created a gallery on my smugmug page just for road food. I will post photo of some of the great roadside eateries that I come across in my travels. I will also post them here. I'll start the ball rolling... Little Red Wagon, Merrimac, Mass. This has to be one of the smallest kitchens around. Located right off exit 53 off 495, it is an easy, quick stop and go from the highway. Complete with a stream and picnic table, it's a great place to stop and grab a bite. Great breakfast sandwiches!
JT Farnham's, Essex, Mass. This place is right up the road from the always crowded and overrated Woodman's. It's hidden enough that the crowds stay away. More of a local hang out. Right on Route 133 on the Essex / Gloucester border. Ipswich whole bellies, fried to perfection. Have a seat at one of the picnic tables, enjoy the view.
TWO, Two Wheels Only, in Suches GA. Blue and White GS's are the preferred method of transportation, of course... And it's in the heart of heaven...
1.American Barbeque Rowley 2.Jeannies Plum Island 3.Fowles Newburyport 4.Bensons Ice Cream on 133 in Boxford
That's cute . Looks attached to RV. One way to tour and made a buck. Stop at Walmart to sleep and buy more hot dogs
Turners` Corner at the bottom of Hwy 129 in North GA. Sorry about the stolen pic, I didn't have a picture handy at the office.
The owner of the White House is mad at the world. This is only place on earth where he could be successful. The food is just so so. The service is terrible. The Mojave Red on tap is just wonderful. . Right across the street is The Miner's Union. This place has a real soda fountain with a old time marble counter top. The place recently changed hands and I have not had a chance to check out their service.
hi Marty & Jill I dont have my favorites uploaded yet.. but this was a very tasty stop at the fishermens dock (cant remember the name, but it had the HUGE line for the walk up window ) in Morro Bay, CA off of Hwy1 man o man.. that lobster dish in post # 11 @ Red's looks good!!! I think I might have to take a trip to Maine just for that! this is a tasty thread! keep it up! :dg
A recent dessert in Skagway at Jewell's Garden. A lot of the food on the menue was grown on site. I wish I had shot the rubarb pie before I ate it.
Punalu'u Bakery, renowned for their Portuguese Sweetbread. Their Chicken Cutlet, typical local plate lunch complete with rice and potato/mac salad, a little skimpy, normally you get Two Scoops Rice. Ideal refueling after a day of this.
