Harmonizer Vacuum Multi-Tool -- It ain't your Daddy's Twinmax

The 2 modes (gauge and balance) are used for different functions.
Gauge is like a standard manometer, it displays the amount of vacuum in inches of mercury.

Balance is a differential function and shows only the difference of vacuum between the 2 ports, not the total amount of vacuum.

To balance 2 carbs or FI ports use the balance function.

To diagnose why you can't balance 2 cylinders, or if you need to know the magnitude of the vacuum (like check for air leaks etc), use the gauge mode.

So wouldn't make sense to use gauge first to set the highest equal vacuum, then do TB adjust? There must be a better way to know the air adjustment instead of saying...2 and 3/4 out from bottom. By the way, I have not found what the spec is.

In a word, no.

Just use the balance mode.

As long as the BBAS's are in the 'normal' range, as called out by BMW, maximizing the vacuum first is, more or less a waste of time.
And as you found out results in poor performance.

I have two, one never removed from the box, the other used on a BMW boxer just once that will soon be for sale.

As a former owner and user of a TwinMax I can tell you the difference is like night and day... Or like comparing a 1970's Carabela to your latest favorite motorcycle model from your favorite manufacturer. It's that much of a difference.

The Harmonizer is much easier to use, infinitely faster in completing the job, and much more accurate in the process. I can't put it any plainer than that. In damn near the time it has taken you to open and read this post you could have literally been done with synching your throttle bodies.

Until you've used one it's hard to grasp what an improvement it is. But the Harmonizer is so good that I bought a second one when it looked like Grok was gonna' stop making them, just so I'd be sure to have a spare.

I never did that with a TwinMax, or any other synching solution, before.
