Once again, awesome report Rob! Thoroughly enjoyed it, and that video at the end got me all pumped up even in my weakened state after the ride you took me on today. It was great meeting and riding with you, and I'm truly glad you got to have this experience. :thumb

I've cried when I sold a motorcycle before...I felt actual guilt selling the Husky. When I buy a motorcycle I can see them cringe in fear when I walk into the showroom...the Husky is one of the few that stepped forward and said, "Yeah, I'll go...take me home."

Thanks, Buggy Lady!! I'll work on the GPS stuff this week.:deal

Thank you, as to the videos...I did get permission from Automatic Static for the use of his song for the final slideshow. He's working on a new album entitled, "Friends and Lovers"...he really gets it.:deal

Thanks, Dave!! Different?...I get asked that quite a bit...it reminds me of some lyrics from a previous ride report.

If I had a chance for another try,
    I wouldn’t change a thing
This made me all who I am inside
And if I could, I'd thank God
That I am here, and that I am alive
    And everyday I wake
I tell myself a little harmless lie
The whole wide world is mine...

Thanks, dude!! Fun day yesterday, wore me out..passed out on the couch as soon as I got home.

FANTASTIC!!!! What you did is a dream ride for me.........Like alot of other riders I am still looking for the ultimate DS bike. I have owned an XR600, a KLR and a 990 adv. My 525 exc is the best ds for me so far. BUT..it is too damn noisy.
I have heard the te 610 described as a really good XR 600. Can you elaborate?

I haven't ridden a 600 in many moons. I've got the XR650R now and would have to say that the 610 is a close match. The 610 suspension is better and having 5th and 6th overdriven is awesome. The XRR will spank the 610 in the power department, but it has a 75cc advantage. The 610 is heavier, but it carries the weight quite a bit lower. I never felt that the 610 was a "heavy" bike. I would have another 610 right this minute, but I got the XRR without putting out any cash.

Hope that helps and thanks for reading!!

Cool avatar!! Thanks for the story again. I would love to see some of your GPS tracks, just enough to give me an idea of the areas you rode. Not enough to take away the adventure. It's good to get lost now and then.

Thank you for taking the time to post your RR. I'm moving back to the US after a year away for work. I've got a DRZ waiting for me in Colorado. Your images and words are wonderful and have reminded me why I fell in love with the American west all those years ago. Be safe and happy trails. Nick

Great report.......I did the Denio/Gerlach section in September on the way home.....I was sick and didn't want to take the extra day going over to 395 and down to Reno so carefully picked my way down the dirt and spent the night at Soldier Meadows....wonderful place.....wrote a spec travel piece for the LA Times but likely won't get printed because I don't think they include motorcycle travelers as subscribers...Bruce

On any "sealed" bearing, pop the seals off & stuff them full of waterproof grease. Bearings come with very little grease in them. Great for reducing rolling resistance, bad for longevity.

Larryboy, I've been busy lately so it took awhile to get through this EPIC RR! Wow! What a ride! I always love your soul-revealing RRs and your solo style.

    This made me laugh.:lol3
I also have a healthy respect for heights and stopped my bike near the edge for a photo.

I have a confession to make. Stopping and dismounting here was easy. Remounting took me about 5 minutes. I knew the moment I placed any weight on the seat the kickstand would start tipping the bike towards the edge. I was suddenly frozen with fear and had visions of the bike falling over the edge.:yikes I had thoughts of how embarrasing it would be to walk out alone... bikeless.:lol2 I tried repeatedly to mount on both sides and finally had to just go for it. Boy was I relieved when my right foot found the rock and I was able to stop the tipping. At least one of us was man enough to admit this in their RR.

    Keep the RRs coming!:thumb

Count me in with those who fear "the edge". For me, Even worse than walking to the edge is watching someone else get near the edge. Was in Moab and the first time my riding buddies were taking some pictures near the edge I had to get on my bike and ride away. As long as I am on the bike and moving I can deal with most anything. I have ridden many side hills in Colorado. Places where 1 mistake could end your life. BUT, get off the bike and start walking around and I get nervous.

The overhang is what would worry me the most. That shit can let go at any moment.

Mounting can be tricky, especially with a Renazco seat.

Fantastic ride! The title says it all...

Hopefully this summer or next I can get out that way again. After my ride this summer I miss the plains very very much, and I want to see the Pacific again.

On a bit of a down note, I google'd the missing guy... they found his body back in October. :( Dunno if its been brought up already as I'm on Firefox using the greasemonkey plug-in
