According to what I've read Suzuki will be running under the same rules as the other prototype teams.

I was reading something completely non-racing related last night and saw his name under the AP photo (he worked for the AP in NYC).

Although I met him and spent plenty of time with him in media centers I can't claim to have known him. Still, he was a paddock fixture and his contributions will be missed. RIP, Henny.

what is the deal with MotoGP and live coverage. Does Speed carry any of the races live or otherwise? I'd kind of like to see some of these..

Last year most of the European rounds were on about an hour delay. Usually aired at 8 a.m I believe. They'll be covering GP this season so I imagine it'll be the same.

Actually, the races on speed were more like 10-15 minutes behind live.

when I went to Indy in 2010 I think the bikes were 800cc, maybe 900cc.

what are they for 2014 as far as cc's/ approx weight/ approx horsepower?

1000cc, I think around 330lb, and LOTS of horsepower, 250+

1000cc, four cylinders, 81mm max bore, 160kg, and 250-260 hp.

I agree. It is a shame they weigh as much as Superbikes (used to). 80!!! lbs more than the old 500s. :eek1

80lbs more, but probably 100 more horsepower!

it still boggles the mind. when we were at Indy in 2010 and they screamed by you didn't have to be a real genius to surmise that these were pretty incredible machines, and then they told me the specs.

it still doesn't compute. 250 horsepower at the disposal of your right wrist. freaking salt flat bikes don't have that kind of power (most of them). I could see a trip to Austin soon that town has the best barbacue in the world no matter what Memphis thinks.

The 500's were right around 200 at the end of their run/reign.

But who cares? Horsepower won't go around a corner.

id be interested to see what a modern era 2 stroke would do with the electronics of today.

even though the old 500's would lap slower times around a track they were a lot more fun to watch and the only traction control a rider had was in their right wrist

Neither will a Ducati MotoGP bike ..........

Thats the recipe for good racing, more horsepower than traction.

I agree with this . I took a Ducati to Laguna Seca in '97 to race in the vintage race that was added to the AMA program. The bike was a 750 bevel twin that had an old BOTT 950 cc motor in it . And I had no starter and there wasn't a conveinient hill to use of suficent height.
I pushed the bike over to someones rollers a time or two , then one time when practice was called the guy was gone.
I went back to our pits and there was a huge armed guy hanging out. I asked if he would give a push and sure enough I had a starter the rest of the day.
