Well I better start a build thread on the 690R so here goes

take 1 2009 690R surf the interNERD and spend a load of cash you have not got . My dream bike is a 690RR but can't afford the 43k so thank fully some ( alberto, http://www.albertodottori.net/ktm%20690%20kit%20afrrica%20race.htm ) got a copy of the690rr fairings and so starts the build ,

it it really started about 6 months ago with some sexy WP twin chamber forks

It'll be good to see what you end up with. I nearly bought one 3 weeks ago (new) which was going to cost me around the 15 k mark. Then you need to start spending?? Luckily a pristine 640 adventure came up with around 4 k on the clock and I saved around 5 k on the 690 with no need to modify it too much. So I took the easy option. Albeit with a bit more vibration than the 690 donk. Good luck with your project.

Looking great so far. Have you filled up Alberto's tank yet to see how much they hold?

It'll be interesting to see how heavy she is at the end. I bet the difference to my EXC won't be all that big once I add cush drive, oil cooler, fairing, HID lights, big tanks etc.

That's damn cool but there's something about a fiberglass gas tank that worries me... (It is fiberglass isn't it?)

That's a good story, have another one?

As long as it's made with a high quality vinylester resin, it's perfectly good, if not excellent. Most home built aircraft and many GTP cars have carbon/kevlar/s-glass gas tanks.

I actually just completed a new tank for my bike using VE Carbon/Kevlar and S-glass.

Additionally, a tank like this can be repaired, on the trail if need be. Once you crack a PE tank, it's all over.

I assume you recommend vinylester because of better compatibility with the alcohol content in fuel these days?

Probably Kevlar for the mounting points?

Do you know if Alberto uses epoxy or vinylester resin? I think most countries in Europe use 5% or less of ethanol, don't know about OZ.

north america is 23.6 mj per litre

10% per litre but some provinces are bringing laws in to keep it below 5%.
