So. I finally started putting my bike back together today. Lots of RTV for sealing :D but other issues cropped up. (not related to intake :( )

I needed to replace the valve cover gasket. When all the bolts came out, there was one TOTALLY stripped and one that a previous heli-coil was backing out. I think it is best to pull the motor (thank god it isn't a car this time) and take it to a machine shop for repair.

SO! Who is good around Tucson and can get this done soon, well, affordably? I have a good OHV and expect to use it (I'm only .5 mile from STL).

My bike mechanic is very good, and affordable. Luckily, I don't know if he does any machining type of work. If not, he would still be a good lead.

I'll PM you his contact info.

PS: My '97 XR600R is for sale. She's in great shape. :D

Try putting a time-sert in?! A time sert is a more of a solid "barrel" type thread repair, they can can also be red locktited in... I'm in Phoenix, but would be happy to help if you could get it up here.. Tim:1drink

Performance Machine has done right by me everytime I've called on them. They're on Grant near I10 and know their way around a bike.

Good guy. He came to the last Dual Sport gathering at Nimbus.

He has worked on two bikes for me.

Chris has worked on my bike before. Well, the wife's, but still.

I don't think they do any machine work but I guess I should ask since I am going there for some gear (meant to do it last week and got distracted).
