I just installed HID lights on my 2005 640 adv and went I went to test them I could not get the key into ignition - it s cold here -10 C, but it does not feel iced up, it feels like it is trying to lock me out - if that makes sense. The key has been sticky before, but now it goes in 1/4 inch and just hits something hard and not moving. Do these locks have some safety feature that locks you out if they detect something fishy??? I shot a little antifreeze into the lock but nothing. I was pushing really hard and gettingpretty pssed but quit before I really fooked it up.:baldy

Interesting, yes you're right the rally uses the same bearings on both sides. Could be as 'simple' as sourcing the right bearing to do the job, or just using the the 640 bearings.

The rallye and 640/625 appears to use the same flywheel and stator even though it has a completely different ignition system.

Have no doubts that fitting the crank in is possible, but I've put it into the too hard/expensive basket.

Hi, on my 2006 i've noticed the kickstart is getting stiff and not as easy to kickstart, also, at times, it get stuck at the bottom of the stroke?

    anyone had a similar problem?

    thanks,

    How cold is it outside.

When I try to kick start my 2001 under 30 degrees it too gets stuck and also gets very stiff.

When it's really cold, it doesn't even engage. Stick a heater on her for 15 minutes to warm up the oil a bit.

what the hell MBD- you still looking for a REAL bike???

owning a 640 adv is little like being a celebrity - all kinds of unwanted attention...

that said I am really considering why I am holding onto the 640. The 400 is more fun in the dirt and for weekend rides thats what I am on. the xt600 is smother on the commute and just as just as cool (almost). The 640 is one of those bikes I find myself wondering why I need it - it is too high strung for commuting and too heavy for enduro-style riding. As much as I love it, I am tempted to admit I could get on fine without it. I can't believe I am saying this...

It's a bit of an itch; usually goes away after a while.

And I'd say owning one is not so much like being a celebrity. More like dating one. :lol3

I suppose you are right - you never really own a 640 - you just have a certain perscribed time as a companion to one - that said - why the f__ can't I get my key into the ignition:baldy

Sometimes the tumblers just jam. Have you tried a little graphite lube?

I seriously doubt the bike is reacting to your mod. It's a coincidence.

    Hi! :D

In 2008, while I was watching the BAJA ARAGON in Zaragoza (Spain), I took some pics of a Marc Coma Dakar Rally bike that Repsol was displaying, and I'm going to post a couple, just in case that you like them :evil
