Found a decent looking used xr350r. It's good 2 go except the guy says it needs a new left piston. Is that a big deal for this bike? He's asking $700. It's a starter bike for my 13yr old son.

If he really told you it needs a left piston :huh :jose I'd be suspicious of the bikes upkeep...especially if he claims he maintained the bike himself. I'd suggest maybe doing a little research on any bike you think you would be interested in buying.

Keep in mind the right piston has the same amount of hours on it as the left piston....buyer beware. :eek1

Just looked at the add let me rephrase the above :poser:jose:jose:jose Nice spray paint job on the engine. Looks like $700 worth of someone else's problems. Is that a motocross front brake hose to go with those just about motocross hand guards? LOL..."new decals", Warn winch and a NASCAR sticker.

I had an '84 model XR350R and even went into the top end but never found the left piston. I only had one... maybe I got ripped off or you're not looking at an XR350?

Yeah, just looked at the add and it's the same model I had. I did get ripped off!

I agree... pass on that one.

Just sharing an opinion, while the price is tempting, be prepaired to do a great deal of work to that bike if you buy it. It also would be wise of you to learn a little more about what you might buy. That is a single cylinder 4 valve head, hence the two header pipes. While I can look past a bad paint job, THAT really bad paint job looks like it is trying to cover up other problems. Best of luck to you.

LOL DITTO. I know...there aren't that many XR 350's for sale out there, most every one that I have seen advertised were in better condition, and yes the price was higher as well. The only difference between spending more for a bike that is well kept and spending less for a pile of rubble is you get to ride much sooner....isn't that why you want a bike in the first place...to ride? You're going to spend just as much money if not more resurrecting a neglected bike. Keep in mind parts for a 30 year old bike are going to be hard to locate. If you want an air cooled 350 I'd suggest looking into a mid 90's Suzuki DR 350, the aftermarket is fairly strong for the DR's

That bike has "abused roach" written all over it. It is a freshly painted roach, but a roach none the less.

Didn't take much effort to to find a nice 1984 XR 350R.

    1984 Honda XR 350cc - $1200 (Gilbert)

</figure> The is a 1984 Honda XR 350cc four stroke. The bike runs great and is in great conditon. Has after market Super Trap exhaust system. It is in need of a front tube for the tire, new grips and new air cleaner.

Crap. We have kinda settled on nothing bigger than 250cc but a 350 would work
