Got this gasket in today, intending to reinstall the factory exhaust system. It's bent and looks beat up.

I hate to send it back and wait 2 more weeks. Do you think it's usable or not?

That looks like the one from the tail end of the header to the silencer, not as critical as the one on the cylinder. Maybe not the best but I think I would use it. (Disclaimer: This is only what I would do and is not a recommendation or advice, its only my point of view) :muutt

(if it's not the one for the end of the can to the header pipe then disregard my comment...)

yep, that is the gasket that goes between the head pipe and the silencer, I would use it.

Does anyone know if there is a SR-Racing dealer in North America. I just bought a X-challenge that came equipped with the Remus pipe that I find too loud and am looking for a quiter solution, I am in Canada.

I am replacing the Remus muffler that came on my xchallenge, too much braaaaapppp for me and am wondering what exhaust header I have. According to the post above I believe I must have a Remus header which will probably require a stock header and stock muffler to get a quiet solution or I may go with the SR Racing muffler which also probably will require a header replacement.
The header pipe is about 48mm OD at the connection to the Remus muffler. Can anyone tell from the pics if this is a Remus or stock header.

That is the stock header - you can tell by how it necks down as it passes the frame "downtube" in the 4th and 5th pictures. Confirmation will come when you dismantle and see that a whole exhaust gasket is between the two sections. The gasket does not fit when using the Remus header.

I noticed 2 stock mufflers on ebay yesterday from breaker yards.

let me know if you need more info.

    Thanks aprilian,
I understand your previous description now.
I see one on ebay so I will check with fellow advriders in the flea market first. I will have a remus if someone wants one.

Well I got a stock muffler with the stock gasket and it does not fit the header I have so I think I must have a Remus header.
ID of stock muffler inlet with gasket in place is 43mm.
Header discharge OD is 48mm .
It looks like if I take the gasket out of the stock muffler it might slide over the header but it will be close and I fear I will ruin the gasket removing it.
I probably should find a stock header.

Can anyone confirm the outside diameter of the stock header. I am betting 43mm ?

I pulled my measurement notes and you are right. You have the Remus header, sorry about my previous incorrect visual ID.

You can use the remus header with the stock pipe, here is what isn't a plug and play.

    1) cuts in stock muffler intake are longer than the header. Therefore if you do a slip- fit there will be 4 leaks. I solved it by cutting part of a standard gasket and putting it where the leaks are and using high temp copper sealant.

    2) the standard exhaust clamp has clips to hod it in place. I ground then off with a dremel to allow the clamp to slip down over the end of the 4 cuts.

I haven't put enough miles on to find out if my bodge holds. If not, I'll use shim-stock to fill in between the header and the muffler.

Gasket is replaceable, don't worry about damaging the old one.

Thanks, I just got in from the shop and am now just reading your post. I just found everything you mentioned, including the fact that the remus header is a good 1/4in short and I have the 4 little holes to deal with. I will probable try what you did to see if it works.
I could move the muffler bolt attachment 1/4in closer to the front and that would probably solve it or get the header modified by welding a little extension on but your fix sound simple if it works.

Did you just cut 4 little gasket pieces out of the old gasket from the stock muffler to cover the holes, slide them in place under the clamp, tighten, and hope for the best?

If you think of the old gasket as a bagel, I just cut it in half with tin snips (into two full circles), that half nestled between the end of the header and the slight neck down of the stock exhaust. therefore it was directly below the four holes.

Keep in mind that I only put 50 miles on it before we got hit with more snow this week. So I don't know if I got it sealed permanently.

Your idea to relocate the mounting bolt of the muffler is interesting. Let me know if you do that.

I posted this ? in one of the other X threads..
Does the remus systems fit with the hepco becker pannier systems?

Where are all these remus pipes that everyone says they are pulling off? Dont see any for sale...

Do any of the others have the lower mount like Remus & Factory?

As for sound concerns, I have the Remus race pipes on my R1100S and love the sound, doubt the G650X would be any louder.. My K100RS Remus is quiet tho.

    Hey Walter,

do you use your SR Muffler with the remus header pipe (48mm diameter) or with the original one (and is a gasket needed), which is about 45mm diameter?
And whats about a KAT (SR Racing, in connection pipe or in the muffler?) and gasoline in the middle of the russian area?

    I use stock header pipe.

Cat isnt a problem. Basically the whole world runs unleaded these days. Russia has been all unleaded for a long time now (pre 2000 I think) and everyone else in the area follows Russias lead. Mongolia doesnt refine petrol and buys it from Russia and China, which as mentioned, are both unleaded.

According to this, there were only 6 countries left in the world where you can still buy leaded fuel ... http://www.lead.org.au/fs/fst27.html in 2011. Down from about 70 countries in 2005. So by now (almost 2014) it will be less than 6 countries in the world.

Leaded fuel and cats is no longer an issue. Its one for the history books and old bearded adventure riders telling war stories from days gone by.

I have received the pipes from ceramic coating and went to install today.

Unfortunately, it was not possible. Don't mind how stupid that sounds, but I didn't want to put lots of stress on the header pipe.

Can someone post pics please of how the link pipe sits?

I'm trying to position the silencer lower in order to use a cylindrical spacer for the mounting.

Problem is that to make silencer to sit lower I must rotate the link pipe, but then it becomes pointing outwards towards the back and hits the luggage rack!

Also the spring hooks don't align and one of them becomes very close to fuel tank...

Here are some pictures, but it is equally hard to show the nature of problem as is to talk about it!

Help me, we have been trying to work it out with a friend but don't know what is going wrong!
Could it be an incorrect link pipe?? :huh
