There also is an AFX FX-55 coming, a modular that looks interesting, but no reviews of it yet...

I have a comment and question.

I picked up a black Fly version a few months ago and generally like it. But, and a big BUT, the visor is terrible, the waviness gives me a headache and makes me dizzy from my 10 minute commute, and wearing sunglasses under the visor just makes matters worse.

Now I know the AFX typically gets good reviews regarding the visor, and webbikeworld talked about the Fly having the visor issue, but how do the aftermarket shields fare? I have to get rid of this visor, and since 90% of my riding is daytime I'm would like to ditch the sunglasses so I'm looking at the mirrored visor. If anybody has any input I would greatly appreciate it.

Will check today. Rep said most all size/colors are coming in on the 1st PO, but just to be sure, which are you looking at?

AFX RMAd my fading helmet. Good to know they stand behind their product, but the RMA prcould use some improvement though- I have to send the helmet to the dealer, they send it to AFX, AFX should authorize replacement. I was told that the whole process might take up to 8 weeks, which is ridiculous.
While on the phone with AFX, I inquired about the FX-41 availability, was told November 15th.

Please let us know what sizes/colors you can get and when. I've been holding out for a 41 but if I can't get one until December I'm going to buy a 39 and wait for the next round of improvements. :)

    Thanks,

    Tim

Head shape comments welcome also... I like the 39 because its so comfortable for a narrow or long oval head.

Yes, I know. FWIW I am trying, but don't have much to work with.

The computer date is late November. I am going to have to go with that.

    Hello Sage.

The 41 we have is slightly less oval than the 39, or the Fly Trekker. Shorter front to back. It is more similar in shape to the Arai XD4 than the FX39.

Also interested in that hi viz AFX 41. Curious to see the reviews. I like the idea of the internal sun shield... My HJC helmet has one and it is super useful.

That stinks, maybe it will still work for me though. I'm a long oval but helmets like the AGV Stealth are too narrow. My head fits very nice in a XL Shark RSI, too bad they killed off that model. My RSI is getting pretty worn.

Can anybody comment as to the build quality and fit compared to an HJC CL-16?

The CL-16 is my current helmet and I was wondering if the FX-39 felt cheaper or flimsier. I am happy enough with the CL-16, so as long as quality is comparable I think I would be happy. I take many early morning rides and I'm dying for a peaked lid.

The CL-16 fits me well in a medium, but a smidge of my chin is exposed. I'd also appreciate it if the vendor or anybody on the thread could comment on length.

Hopefully this post would help others since the CL-16 can be found pretty much everywhere for comparison. Thanks!

For build quality, very close with the edge going to the HJC, frankly. That said, for design and overall use, I prefer the AFX / Fly overall (build quality, fit, function, price) to the HJC (actually Joe Rocket) DS helmet, or anything else sub-$150.

    Hope that helps.
