Emery County attorneys inspect toppled goblin formation

The investigation into the men who toppled an ancient "goblin" rock formation continues to inch forward, though no charges had been filed as of Wednesday.

According to a statement, Emery County Attorney David Blackwell and Deputy Attorney Brent Langston visited Goblin Valley State Park on Monday to inspect the scene of the toppled formation. Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg said a park investigator accompanied the attorneys at the scene.

The investigation is still being handled by park personnel, and county attorneys have not filed charges against the two Boy Scout leaders, who were subsequently stripped of their authority by Scout officials.

Glenn Taylor, who pushed over the formation, and David Hall, who video-taped the incident, confirmed last week that authorities had contacted them as part of the investigation. The men have insisted that they toppled the formation because it posed a threat to the safety of park visitors.

Park authorities disagree, saying the men should have contacted a ranger if they felt there was any threat.

Swalberg said authorities have managed to locate the specific formation that was toppled.

The Emery County Attorney’s office statement adds that the Emery County Attorney’s office "recognizes the public interest this case has generated and will carefully review the case when the investigation is complete."

Swalberg did not say how much longer the investigation would last, but said authorities want to be thorough.

Todays paper states the rock pushers uncle was killed 31 years ago by a rock that
fell over and crushed him to death.

Maybe he just saved someone's uncle.

Maybe the rock fell on his uncle who also liked to push over rocks?

Maybe doG was trying to send a message? Perhaps the wrong branch of the family tree was pruned.

I've come close to being killed by falling rocks on Mt. Rainier. I suggest they install safety nets and rock warning radar.

Spend a lot of time around Rainier, but never had a problem with falling rocks. Now a falling tree almost got me one time though. There is an area on the SW side where a dead tree forest exists and we were working in there one day and a big tree fell and crushed our instruments, but I jumped away. :eek1

LOL these are Mormons with large families so how far removed was this uncle? Also Dave Hall was not the one that toppled the formation. Glenn did that. So I'm not sure how Daves uncles death 30 years ago played into what Glenn did....lol

Because Glenn is going to say it was all Dave's idea, and he was just helping out his friend. Aad Dave is gonna say "Nu Uh" I just filmed it as a public service and you can see it's ALL Glen in the vid. and then both of their attorneys are gonna try to say there's reasonable doubt and there should be no conviction because really it's all the other guy's fault.

Yup, that defense obviously works so why not give it a try?

Doesn't say this in the article but Flakes blamed Grant who in turn blamed Flakes. NEITHER were convicted of the murders, only to being an accessory.
