Just replaced my sprockets and chain this afternoon, while the weather was co-operating and the shop was warm enough to work. The new front sprocket was very tight on the splines, so that's a relief. I was worried the splines on my output shaft might have been worn. Still have some life left in the tires so my new Anakees will have to wait. I'm ready for Spring any time now.
Voice of Homer Simpson...Mmmmmm new Anakees! The only way those tires could be better is if naked women came to the house to install them and called their twin sisters over to balance them.
Anakee??? Are those the new Anakee 3? Wow ... much different than the 2's............. That's a very interesting tread pattern .... I'd bet longer life than Tourance .... I wonder how they work in the mud?
Yes, Anakee 3s indeed. We're very interested in trying them out but we're not quite ready to change over.
We didn't like the Anakee 2. The outer edge was a row of loose blocks which didn't inspire cornering confidence, but the new series look great.
Odd. Here in Mexico the Anakkees worked great in the loose stuff, heavy rains, etc... I found they cornered a lot better than those damn Battlewings! Subjective verdict, I am looking forward to that Anakkee 3 design. Both tire pressure sensors gave up the ghost last weekend, almost 50,000kms and they both failed at exactly the same time. If nothing, Motorrad builds consistency along with the obsolescence into some things.
MikeMike ... I'm sure I spend more time on asphalt than you do, but I was not a huge fan of Anakee II either ... I have tournaces now ... but the Anakee III looks interesting.......... I have heard that the battery in the BMW pressure sensors is not designed to be "user replaceable" which if true is a real bummer as the new sensors are not cheap, and would have to be re-married to the computer system by the dealer .... I've not held one of the sensors in my hand, but you might be able to find a way to disassemble and replace the battery in the sensor ...
I've seen them go one at a time or close together, but not exactly the same time. Sure hope it's not the RDC computer. Either way you're in for a shop visit to get everyone reaquainted, except if you figure out the battery change. I believe the tool to disassemble those comes in 1LB, 2 LB and 5 LB IIRC.
Yo can heat up the sensor where the epoxy goop is and replace the common and cheap battery, however with the temps we get here I would need a good epoxy like the original to hold it back together. I have heard you can fit a sensor, run the bike up to 40kmh and the new sensor is recognized by the computer but I have to do it myself to verify this. Until my tires wear out, it'll be my digital tire guage that gets the work out.
Please do a thread with pics when you attempt to change the batteries. It would be very valuable. If you succeed and reuse the old sensors (keeping their original fr/rr orientation) then no computer is necessary. If you change them out entirely then no, it must be paired. All sensors use a discrete frequency or other geeky term to be unique, like bluetooth. Otherwise the bike couldnt tell the front from the back or from the beemer guy at the lights beside you. Can't say about the epoxy other than to keep it light. The more weight at the sensor means more weight opposite on the rim to keep the balance.
So you pay $140 each for the sensors and a labor charge on top of that to pair the things. Hope my current tires last awhile!
yeah.... initially I was disappointed I could not get a bike with the TPMS from BMW as I thought it would be cool to have it warn me on the dash of low pressure .... then I found out about the battery issue ... sheessssssssssss I thought about getting one of these: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/tiregard-wireless-tpms/ but some folks said the sensor weight so much (~45g) that it fatigued the valve stem.... I just found this system the other day and they claim sensors only weigh ~17g so I may check into it.... http://www.rvtirepressure.com/
45 grams is roughly 1 3/4 oz. Be interesting to see what the BMW monitor piece weighs when I change it.
From pictures, I'll bet they weigh even more ... The big concern with the valve stem mounted units was the weight on the end of the stem would vibrate/wobble around and fatigue the valve stem ... and I gotta admit ... 1 3/4 oz is a lot .... the 17g units would seem light enough to not be a big deal, but I think with that unit the console must have 12V supplied while most of the competition runs on batteries... There is Motorcycle show in town next wkend ... vendor may be there.... will see what they have...
Both of mine stopped workin at the same time when it was still under warranty. Tech tried to reintroduce the sensors to the RDC computer. He said he could not so it must have been the computer. He was going to order the RDC but when I picked up the bike I realized both were woking again. So it could be just the sensors and the computer lost the contact and had to be coupled again. And sometimes they have difficulty coupling them. I have 08 model 88Km and still no problems. Those Anakee 3s look more street oriented.
