There should be a press release soon with some info about the upcoming NORRA Mexican 500 to be held in late September. It should be a great 3-day event and will continue the NORRA tradition of some epic scenery including some routes that have not been raced in over 15 years.

We will also be releasing a rule book update this weekend. The changes affect cars but if there are issues with the bike rules or bike category definitions, this would be a good time to bring them up. You can contact me via PM or post here.

one suggestion that has been brought up many times in the last couple years is is a class that GPS units are not used or legal to use for navagation ... Roadbook only....

You guys are kidding, right??? You don't think there are enough classes already? Maybe they should have a separate 50cc ironman road book class?? Stop whining about GPS and race the damn thing the best way you know how. All of you hot shoes should just make a side bet

I never said that a roll chart/road book wasn't fun AND I used the road book every time I was in the car this last race (Day 1 stages 1&2 in the Gordon/Arciero class 1 car & Day 2 stage 2 in the BFG Blazer). Did the overall winning bike use GPS or road book? What about in your class?? Did the winning team use GPS?? You may be arguing a moot point if its only the cars that are using GPS.

OA winner - Morgan did not use a road book
    Class 50 winner used both
I had a GPS on the bike ( It never worked)
My point is Just have a class that you can not have the ( track ) on your GPS so you have to read your Road book only

We used roadbook only, not by choice but because the gps(pl) did not work.

The Rally Raid category is now a NO GPS class open to ANY bikes. This will be the first class off the line.

There is still a Modern Open class which is exactly the same except allowing GPS.

This is a bit of an experiment to see how many entries we get in each. If nobody signs up in Modern Open and runs Rally Raid instead then we will consider expanding the NO GPS to other categories.

The request for NO GPS categories is primarily from bikes rather than cars so for now, all car categories can still use GPS.

We will also attempt to provide roll charts for this Sept event.

And we are looking at more ways to separate cars and bikes including split courses (routes where bikes go one way, cars another, opens the possibility to give the bikes some real single track).

We have also reduced the number of bike categories to this list:
Rally Raid - NO GPS, Open to any bike. This is the top class.
    Modern Open - Any bike
    Modern Lites - 250 2-st, 400 4-st
Vintage Open - 1993 and earlier
    Vintage Lites - 1993 and earlier, 250 2-st, 400 4-st
50+ all riders 50+ any bike
Electric bike, no internal combustion engine

Anybody with an inside line to the hotels planned for Ensenada, Mexicali, and San Felipe?

Strongly considering this if I can work out the timing. Unfortunately, I can't make the Baja Rally de Motos a week later, but might be able to fit this one in...

I wouldn't be surprised if the Mexicali hotel center is where the Mexican 1000 is usually based. That would make sense, right?

But I don't have any "secret official insight" on this. :deal

    Cheers,

So probably the San Nicolas in Ensenada and Colonial in Mexicali, and maybe the Hacienda Don Carlos in San Felipe for hotels...
