I thought enduros were timed races where you could 'hour out'.

It was the same here, wasn't it? :dunno

Nearing the end of the live stream Sunday they were talking about a few riders still being on the course and only having a few minutes to get to the next check point or they'd be done.

It was more that it was getting late and if they hadn't left the remote pit by a certain time they wouldn't make it back by the 6pm end of race. We hung out with the guys at the last checkpoint for a while and the word went out to begin stopping riders about 3pm.

I had a blast @ KOM this year! Huge props to Jimmy and Dave for putting on the event. Scotty also did a great job on the mic all day and I loved the big screen TV at the finish line. Kinda cool to be watching live coverage on the trails and glimpses of heli-footage while Larry Roesler and family are eating hot dogs right next to us. The day before I got to ride with Graham Jarvis, who was out pre-running this EXTREME ENDURO race. Graham said he was a little jet-lagged but was enjoying his time riding in the desert.

Steve Denies of Colorado won the Expert Class with a broken rear brake lever on a stock 450:

Destry reminding LR at the finish line that he is at least 40 years old and still kicking ass!

Cameron Steele on a 250x said the last downhill was on a trail called SOS and stood for Sixties on Stickies and was pretty difficult. That downhill section of the trail was 'no joke'.

Robo-Boogie said the same thing about that last downhill coming into the finish. Told us it was the gnarliest part of the whole course. Didn't get to see it. Anyone have any pics?

the term "Extreme Enduro" is from Europe. In Europe they call, or at least used to call, all off-road racing "Enduro". They used to call Erzberg an Enduro.

Thats the only way that most people know how to describe it. It in no way adhere's to American "Enduro" rules.

On the ground, for event organization, it was kind of nice for a few reasons.

    1. We didn't have to police the entire valley making sure people stayed off the course because it was open!
    2. New riders were able to see what they were in for, do some testing on their bikes, do testing with the GPS and get ready to race on sunday.
    3. there was no hometown advantage. with most riders being from out of town if gave them a chance to learn the terrain and get a feel for what was going on.
