yep the one for the bm one goes on with the bike if I remember correctly does something else can't remember someone will chime in pls. cheers
I always recommend that an authorized BMW dealer do the first service, as it is recorded in the BMW data base for any and all BMW dealers to see. Whats that saying Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.......or something like that.
So you've spent over $20k on a bike and now want to save a few $ and service it yourself, invalidating the warranty:eek1
Over here doing your own service work most certainly does not invalidate your warranty unless BMW can prove you botched it and that directly caused the problem in dispute.
Fair enough, but to spend so much on a new bike, then service it yourself to save a few bucks seems odd. I prefer the peace of mind, personally.
+1 I'm glass 98% full with this bike, but on the slight chance that something pops up (say, a FD failure), I'd want to have a potential warranty dispute off the table. All the maintenance is straightforward, so having a dealer do it is more insurance in the event of an issue than anything.
In the UK the first service is labour free. You just pay for the parts. Is this not the case worldwide ?
Actually I think it's pretty common in the U.S. for owners to do their own service on the bike. I've never heard of anyone's warranty claim being disputed because they did their own service. At least over here in the U.S. At a cost of US$300 for the first service, that's a fair amount of $$$. If I hadn't negotiated my first service to be included in the purchase price, I'd certainly have done it myself. As I have on all of my bikes in the last 10 years.
Hi Voz, At first I too thought that black crash bars would look better. After considering that the frame and engine are silver though, I've decided to stick with the silver theme on both the crash bars and on the Jesse pannier rack mounts. Pics to follow on the "show us your LC GS thread" (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=868880) once I get them installed on the bike. I think it'll be hard to determine which bars are closer until we can get the TT and SWM on bikes side by side.
I would dispute this with your dealer. I have three local dealers within 30 miles and all do the first service labour free. Sounds as if you have been seen off.
Not the case here in Cardiff. Charged 1.5 hours labour when it took them just over three - first one that they'd done.
No doubt you are correct on both counts. I'm thinking though of the thread running on the starter motor issue and complete engine replacement versus bike replacement. While not really applicable (200 miles and not maintenance related in any shape), when you're dealing with negotiating something as major as that I'd prefer to not have "self-maintained" as an issue in the discussion. Along with all the "new model" concerns, I guess I'm risk averse enough that I'll make the 200 mile round trip and shell out the $$$ for the dealer to do the first round of maintenance. I don't disagree with what you're saying at all -- in fact US law may make it a non-issue as well. But when you're in a situation like the starter thread, not having to deliberate a self-maintenance issue may give you more leverage.
