I don't think any of those ingredients should cost more than $10/gallon, so it should clearly be less than that.

Never been much of a believer in fuel additives to clean up fuel caused deposits.

I use seafoam as a fuel stablizer and it works wonderfully for that. Better than Stabil, in my experiences over several winters.

It also makes a NOTICEABLE difference how smoothly a "hiccupy" engine runs and responds to throttle input -- like something that hasn't been started in a long time and is running a bit rough. Seafoam produces results within several miles.

Works for me...

I should probably buy a gallon, but I really use about one can per winter because I don't ride that often when it's too damn cold.

Has anyone else used Seafoam as a replacement for Marine Grade (blue) Stabil For that matter, whats in the Stabil? Also, I read another thread that said pale oil & Marvel Mystery oil are the same thing.

100LL AVGAS works great for off season storage. It's made to be able to set for a long time and not varnish a fuel system or loose octane. Readily available at the local airport for about $5.50 per gallon. Can't be used in anything with a catalytic converter though.

Sea Foam seems to enhance the ability of the carb needle to seat properly, on those needles that have the little rubber tip. Softens them up alittle, I imagine.

Marvel mystery oil is the best oil to add to fuel. Been using it for years. In some cases I have noticed a fuel economy increase. Most was in my S10, it consistently got 1 mpg more.

Its been a few years but I remember seeing the msds sheets for MMO and Stabil, IIRC they were almost the same. And they look the same and smell about the same, and the manufacturers had the same zip code. I've bought gallons of MMO since then and use it like Stabil. I have used Seafoam also before, and in my small engines, or ones without O2 sensors / cats I use a blend of 100 octane AVgas and 90 octane rec fuel (no etoh).

In the past I have been responsible for the storage of over 50 ATV's and 15 generators...........Stabil is and was the product of choice for trouble free storage. Full tank of fuel Stabil added, run the engine, drain the carb. . Now use marine version of Stabil to store 25 varied engines some used very little with no concerns.

Any product with alcohol ( any kind) added to the marginal fuel we now have is not a good thing.

Stabil MSD sheet does not disclose ingredients, labeled secret. Prior other threads have suggested that all fuel stabilizers function by placing a layer (floating) on top of the fuel stopping the evaporation of the lighter volatile hydrocarbons ????????

I have used Seafoam on newly purchased bike carbs, soaking disassembled carbs in 100% seafoam with bad fuel problems and had less than great success in softening and cleaning the crap in the jets and bowl. Ended up using the soak in the basket carb cleaner.

I just googled this topic of fuel stabilizers, seafoam ,Marvel Oil,etc., & it goes on foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr- with anecdotal talk & no real specifics other than "I put in ""this stuff"" & this happened or didn't happen. The fact that I,like many, have small engines & bikes that sit in the winter added to the fact that installing carb kits in these machines seems to have become what is a "new hobby" since alcohol came on the scene, makes for a hot topic. I'll stick with blue, marine Stabil for now while recognizing that it has a shelf life of its own to deal with.

YUP. All the other fuel stabilizer threads end the same way..................Honda fuel stabilizer is STABIL..........they have a huge stake in this with small engine repairs....to avoid warranty repairs due to bad fuel..........big problem with generators as they are seldom used with long storage times.
Briggs fuel stabilizer is not brand labeled.

One thing that comes out is doing nothing as far a fuel stabilization is a big risk that you will doing carb work.......maybe at the worst possible time.

Thumb Buy the Gallon!

Is there a downside to buying this kind of thing in a big jug? does it ever exprie? or am i good to go?

thanks.

If SeaFoam is your drug of choice (works for me) getting a gallon is smart money (under $50/gal. at Tractor Supply here). The gallon can isn't very handy, a friend and I saved a few of the pint cans and I 're-cycled' a "Sta-bil" dispenser/measuring bottle to make life easier. The closest thing I have had to a problem is that the spilled SeaFoam 'cleaned' my 'Magic Marker' label off the re-purposed bottle, being the only one using it, not much of an issue.
