I would like to be the first to gripe about the lack of draechon in the tag game now. His signature line says I'm not actually a jerk. I just play one online. This is true, I've hung out with him a couple of times and he is a good guy. His signature line is probably true about most of us. I know it could be applied to me.

I nominate Draechon VP of SC Tag-O-Rama Curmudgeon Operations.

SCFrank still gets my vote for Chairman the SCTORCO board although he's mellowed lately.

I wanna meet Draechon in person. I was a little ugly to him recently and he's been nice ever since. I might try to put together a DS ride in my neck of the woods in the spring. Lil' Sherp Sherp ought to be able to make it this far, easy.

Wait a minute, this is supposed to be a bitching thread. So here goes. I'll repeat and expand on what I said which was soundly ignored in the SCTOR thread. It's fine if a majority of active taggers want to change a rule, but get PU Skunk to do it on Page 1 of the thread. No one should have to read through the whole thread to try to dig out rule changes.

True, I've only been playing about 5 months. But the game is only 12 months old, so sheesh! In those 5 months, I've had 12 grabs/placements and 5 Bruces. I sure did feel a condescending tone coming from knybanjo today. How many SC tags does he have over the last 5 months?

This game seems to have an ebb and flow. The "new" players that are actively participating and the "old dogs" that feel some kind of "ownership" because they have been here a while. Did I just use " " three times in one sentence? The rules are perfectly clear and DO NOT need changing. I've participated when time and life has allowed. I think that goes for all of us. The latest trist has occured because a tagger was past the 24 hour mark and posted anyway. Thus the confusion. We should observe the 24 hour rule and let it be known if we will not make that limit and thus give it back to the previous owner of the tag. Pretty simple if you ask me. I'm glad to see new players in the game and to hear from some the guys/gals that have been here from the start. As soon as the snow stops falling here, I'll see you on the road. Peace, I'm out.

I absolutely agree with outactl's comments.

The rule is 24 hours. I see no reason to change it.

And, if that's the rule, then we all agree to go by it.

If you think it needs to be 36 hours, let's discuss it, but not after the fact.

And as Laura said, change it on the rule page.

Ok, I will bitch...Screw the 24 hour crap. I say make is 6 hours or less. Who wants to wait 24 hours for someone to post a pic? If you don't have one ready, don't play.

Just found this thread. At what point did our game become more about internet arguing and whining over "I would totally grab this but I have to work/it's 20 degrees outside/my bike's not rideable right now/this is too far for me to ride" and giving me useless details of your life, "I'll go grab this after work," but then making an excuse when you don't? When I'm looking at the tag forum, I don't give a flying f* about if you're working or why you're not grabbing it. I don't need to know the miles from your house to the tag, or that your kid has this going on or whatever. If you're Bruced, you have free reign to explain fully what happened. If you grabbed a tag, feel free to tell any interesting tales you experienced along the way. At least then I have a pretty picture to make your words worth my time and you're validated.

If you've got a real reason for not grabbing it or have something to say that's of interest to the group (ex. Land's face-plants), feel free to speak, but the useless posts and whining about the rules and my having gotten in arguments with others over this thread has gotten tiresome. I've paused my play of this game twice already because of the inane banter, irrelevant discussion, and jumping down people's throats because you don't like something another said (and yes, I can appreciate the irony that looms in this very writing). We DO NOT need to add more to the rules. The extra information from a Google grab picture is not a big deal (as long as street names/addresses are not visible).

This is not a game about the internet so much as it is a friendly group of riders having a good time. Making us spend more than half an hour trying to find info of your location online is not that fun. I don't like the elitist "I was here from the beginning of the game so my say matters more than the rest of yours." The only people that could be any bit elitist are the ones that play more than the rest, and they're the least likely to be involved in the arguing. I tried proposing a set of local moderators for our thread that would have final say in any of these situations, but that never came to pass, and I was seen as being offensive the last time I tried to be nice and add a new one to the list.

Really, my having been berated over the course of three days and 50 posts for something I knew was technically not abiding by the rules was completely over the line; I didn't even argue with your having said it was invalid, but it still was discussed for far too long.

If you feel offended by any of what I say, don't think it should said in a public forum, PM me and we'll talk. I was a bit rude to someone a few months back because I didn't get his clues and thought he was making the tag too hard for anyone but a local, but it was my bull-headedness that just caused me to oversee the clues in his post. That was worked out in two messages, without involving anyone else. Let's keep it that way.

P.S.: Numerous times I've seen people mention meeting up. We tried this once. Two weeks before the event, we had something like 18 people saying they'd show. Guess how many did? 7. 5 for camping, then an additional 2 came to ride. It was a blast, but don't say you'll be there and then not show up.

We get 4 weeks of cold hard to ride in weather and this is what happens?
Good thing we're not in the NE.
Nice weather is right around the corner.
Stock up on tags as you find them.

Laura, as far as Kalonji riding a Bandit, besides my 1200, there's also Fox's 600 and another local ADVer that has a 600, but he's shot those, and the Sherpa, and another guy's KLR down, doesn't want to mess with our "spiritual connections" with our bikes.

It's amazing to see that kind of snow in Chucktown! My niece was down there last night for the Wildlife Expo and she said the restaurant they dined at was giving away free snow crab legs to celebrate it.

My son's Bandit has a perpetual wheelie aura around it. :lol3

We played in the snow last night also.

We had a little fire in the backyard and threw snowballs at the dogs. It was great fun, but I'm glad it is basically gone now. I sure don't think I would like living where it stayed covered in snow for extended periods of time.

Kalonji, did I miss in the Charleston dinner thread why you sold your bike? I saw that your home life would be better with only one bike at the house at a time. To me it seems like a new bike would have already been selected unless the right opportunity came up. So what have you gone looking at lately?:ear

Although not on topic for this thread, I see it more appropriate to post here than in the main thread, especially as there is a tad more of a kindred spirit fellowship here than on the Tag one.

My boss's daughter is working on her thesis in psychology, and has compiled <o:p>

Speedy was going through some old photos last weekend and came across this one and I just had to post it somewhere. It's me on a Honda XR200R at Hellhole MX (now defunct) near Leesville, SC in 1983. That was a great track. Look at the elevation change in the background. Speedy raced there a lot but I only did it once, the day of this photo, I believe. It looks like dust on one side of that jump and a mosh pit on the other. I lost count of how many times I fell that day after landing in the muck off of jumps. There was one guy in my class who was slower than me, and I remember getting up, chasing him down and passing him, falling again, wash, rinse, repeat... :lol3

That's an open face helmet, goggles, gloves, tall red Sidi MX boots, Levi's, cotton jersey and a red bandana. No elbow, shoulder, chest or knee protection at all.

Riding the DR after about a quarter-century break from off-road riding has sure brought back many great memories of MX races, dirt poker runs, and just tooling around through the countryside. We're going to ride the upcoming Scream'n Beaver and Broxton Bridge DS rides and hope to see some of you there!
