This question is aimed at the guys that know. Which after market air filter it the best/safest/most hp increase filter available. Want to remove standard air box and replace with something like Rottweiler cpr of similar design. Riding happens in lotsa dust and sand. Same as Kamanya here. Want the ease of maintainance and the hp increase too. So which is the best option or options? Thanks
Was also thinking. What are the pros and cons of getting rid of the airbox and going for the foamy filters. Can dirt get in? Does it filter better. Less water clearance ability. What else? All constructive info would be great. Thanks
i just put the CPR on my 990 and love it. the instal was not bad, the re-mapping was much easier than i thought, and the power is awesome. i also added the snap-out bracket which allows me to remove filter and re-instal in just a few moments. if dust is a concern, run one of the pre-filters and it will add additional filtering and make it easier to keep the main filter clean. good luck, laramie
AFAIK there are only two real options for removal of the airbox. the CPR and the SW7 systems. Both replace the airbox and add a foam reusable filter. Take your pick between the two each has it's own fans. The only other option would be to maybe go the twin individual filter route like on the FCR carb kits but not sure if anyone makes a "bolt on" kit like that. yes the main disadvantage is the water intake compared to the stock airbox. watch river crossings. :) and possibly more rear tire wear. harder to stay off the throttle with the better throttle response and sound.
Some other options. (Not getting rid of the airbox though) Site says it's for a 990 but seen a guy here testing those in his SE so there must be a 950 version available. Why not just stick with the one that offers more then cheaper parts? I know you have the SE, as I use too,but the CPR to me has 0 issues, factory fit and out of the box performance not to mention the additional support by Chris when ever you call him or shoot him a mail. Cant say enough good things about the products and more importantly the support
I run the CPR Rottweiler dome filter on my SE. Works great, has the cool intake noise and by the Seat-Of-The-Pants dyno it adds HP too! I have the Safari tank on my SE and I have about 2" vertical clearance between the dome filter and the tank so I am going to talk to Chris at CPR about whether the standard ADV foam filter might fit as well. Brent
That's a good point. Or another way could be mount the standard prefilter if it will stay on, instead of the light suasage sock.
So it looks like there is the 2 options right? Rotweiler cpr and sw7 by sporting wood. Which is more durable? Offers better protection? Cost effective. If one is supperior it might not make a differance. Price wise that is.I would obviously like to group buy from here due to shipping costs. So far i have 3 possible clients. Myself SE with safari tank. 950 adv and a 990 adv. I am doing some homework now and will buy in the new year. Due to the fact that i cannot run into a store and see them or chat to others that have done it i need to make sure that we get the right ones. As noted before. Lotsa dust and sand riding.j Ease of maintenance. Duribility Complete bolt on kit. Jets and all. Will probably need 2 or more filters per kit. We need to make the best possible decision here. So far all of the help has been great but why should i take the one over the other or are the pretty much the same? Cause then service and price would make the differance. Sporting wood could you please pm some of your SA clients' numbers? I am i cape town area. Also someone mentioned that the sausage foamy is better with the safari tank. Is that for maintainance reasons.
They are identical setups, with only difference being the material of the base plate. SW7 is aluminum, CPR is plastic. I preferred the SW7 as it was half the price. If you search through the threads you might come across the silly comment that the plastic plate makes more hp due to not transfering as much heat from the engine to the incoming air. Pay attention to not believe it.
Mousistas Thanks for your input as this is very informative. Same but different price. Now the suasage filter to the more up right filter is there a differance or is it only the look or ease of getting to it while the SE safari tank its still in place.
don't believe everything you read, this is the internet after all.... lot's of haters around that try and discount Chris from CPR's work and product. just saying. laters, laramie
You get what you pay for....People forget with out CPR we wouldn't have either not to mention snap out kit (SE not applicable) I didnt buy a KTM because it was cheep if I wanted to save a buck on something in the same category I would have bought a KLR.
Exactly Why I ditched the DNA filter set up. Pain in the ass to clean and it seamed every time I would clean the Filter it was never 100% clean like a foam filter.
That cleaning job looks like a nightmare! The thing is with these ITG type foam filter setups, this concept has been going for years... slap an alloy base plate across your intake and clip the ITG on top. Both Rottweiller and SW7 have slightly different features based on that long standing system. Both are highly commended for working hard to perfect the instalation for us LC8 owners and each can claim better features over the other. They both look so good you could flip a coin and you'd probably be delighted with the outcome if that's what you want. Now you might as well go out and buy one like I did. Can't wait to get it.
Difference in performance should be nill between the different heights. Main difference is that the SE cannot take the non sausage type because of interfering with the seat pan. But you can modify the seat to fit, it is a 10min job with a dremel. Otherwise, you have to cut down the carb intake trumpets for the sausage type, due to interference with the filter curved edges. Modifying the seat is easier though. The higher than standard version, I believe does not fit at all due to the seat.
I don't think this thread needs to go the way of the dungeon, but there are two systems out there that are similar. do your research and decide which system you prefer. you will need to rejet your bike after installing the foam filter, make sure you include that in your purchase. Again I think each system/owner has their own take on what direction to go with jetting, so do some research on that as well. The needles are the only thing different between the jet kits (at least if you compare Factory Pro (FP) and the stock settings. You can purchase individual jets anywhere but you can only get the different needles with a kit). Jets are jets. But the knowledge of what might work better in your area will be helpful. contact vendors and purchase based on what you feel is the right response. both systems work well, and if your main reason for changing is to go re-usable, then both will fit the bill. pick your poison. it's like debating what's better, stouts or IPA's. it's beer- just drink what you prefer. :)
