I was looking at the Leatt Adventure neck brace, but could not - yet - find a way to see one / buy one locally. Then I found out that my local shop stocks the EVS Evolution neck brace. My question for those-in-the know:Can the EVS evolution be worn OVER the jacket? I know the Leatt can, but couldn't find any info on the EVS. I typically use a Killimanjaro jacket and also own an Alpinestar sport-ish jacket. If that matters, I am a 100% asphalt rider (FZ6, you know) with only the occasional gravel road - no offroad, and no track days.
I would think the broad base of the EVS brace might interfere with shoulder padds on the jacket and cause it to sit too high.. But that's just a guess and I could be wrong.. Since a local shop stocks them, just stop by with your jacket and helmet and see if it fits.. Problem solved! Also, for what it's worth motodisiac has a thread in the vendors forum for the Leatt brace and he has really great prices for ADVrider members.
I like the idea of a little extra protection, but there is no way these braces are practical. Wish they could invent something that sacrificed a bit of safety for a bit more practicality.
The Leatt brace is significantly smaller than the EVS brace.. It can easily be put on over your riding jacket.. I don't see how that's not practical.
I have one, I can wear it with my Arostich. It does not ride perfectly over the shoulder armor, in fact I don't think that it will ride on any pads very well. I use it mostly with my offroad gear, I do wish it was better with the padded jackets for road wear. The leatt I did not like it is obvious that your collar bones would be loaded with force and quite likely be broken as many have experienced. The EVS does not place the load directly on your collarbones. I will stick with my EVS I do like it. T forgot to mention the Fly Omega neck brace does look very interesting suggest a search on it. here is one http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=819838
I was actually slightly concerned about the collarbone issue with any of the neck braces, but we just got our Leatts and when I'm wearing it, it doesn't touch my collar bones at all.. Not saying it couldn't break my collarbones in a crash, but it definitely doesn't just sit on them either.
The Fly/Omega brace... yes, very interesting, I discovered it after posting here about the EVS. I actually think it looks more interesting than the EVS - I am pretty small-built, and the Omega seems smaller than the EVS/less bulky. But really, what do I know... And yes, I did a search on it... But I also could not find any info on the possibility of wearing it over the jacket. Any input on that?
yeah I would like to know more about the jacket thing also. It is a new late summer product hopefully as things cool off reports will come in. on the Leatt and the collar bones the way my buddies sits on him it is just touching the clavicles. I have heard but not witnessed of several clavicle fxs that riders were certain were caused by the Leatt. T
Here are a few picts of my Leatt Adventure brace and with my Acerbis Desertika jacket that has a removable coller to be used with the leat brace. The jacket goes around the brace. with my old fox chest protector and with the Acerbis jacket
The Omega brace is kinda cool in that it lets you slip a jacket into the front sections to zip up. However I do find the brace a bit more complicated to put on. It is nice that it has different pressure points than the Leatt and EVS.
