Tell me guys - I've never ridden anything west of Missouri.......is this worth hauling the 990 ADV all the way in from Virginia to do the event? I'm considering it - but its a long ways away.

I would love to go on this adventure; pitty it's on the other side of the globe though. The entry fee is no problem but the gas money to get there and back is a bit daunting

This one is really tempting. I like the Bend area, no shortage of woods riding I bet. Good brewery up there, too!

I have been to two of them now and had a blast both times. I keep pushing my limits and realiseing they are way beyond what I though. I reccomend the rally's highly. Food has been excellent both times as well

You owe it to yourself to ride it there. There is nothing more spiritual than a coast/coast tour aboard your motorcycle. The rally is just an excuse to do it.

I bought my Adventure in 2005. After a couple short trips to get used to her, I rode from Boston to Monterey to watch MotoGP. Nine days of spectacular riding and 3 days of MotoGP. Nicky Hayden won. Then I stored the bike for about six weeks while I flew home. In September of that year, I rode her back home.

The route west was through the Northern Plains: Badlands, Wounded Knee, Black Hills, Little Big Horn. From Sheridan, WY it was two lane all the way to the coast. Yellowstone, Tetons, Idaho, Nevada, Yosemite and finally Carmel, CA.

The trip home took 9 days and I spent half of them poking along Southern Utah, AZ and NM: Grand Canyon, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Mexican Hat, Mokee Dugway, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Shiprock, Taos Pueblo, Angel Fire, Cimarron, and a beeline east through St Louis to Boston. Basically the Old Santa Fe Trail.

Lots of amazing places to see between the coasts. Plenty of groomed dirt roads to connect as well.

You'll be riding about three weeks to make the trip and back. I've done that before a couple times. It's a good experience.

1 to 3 bedroom suites? Are they kidding? Surely there must be a designated group campground. This isn't a Goldwing rally is it?

Looks like about a 400 mile ride from my house Im going to try and make it down

It's a two-day ride if 95% dirt,
....a one day ride if 50/50 country two-lane/gravel,
....or three hours on boring highway slab.

I don't care when we leave, I can plan for anything pretty easily, so whatever you've got time for.
...but my vote is...... two days of dirt
So....show up at my place Tuesday afternoon, sometime/anytime,
and we can leave Wednesday morning and get into the Rally by 5-ish Thursday evening.


Plenty of country camping space at my house, and a shower.
BBQ, campfire , and breakfast in the AM.
Seriously, I have lots of space, and all are welcome

...... I'll be very glad to show you all our local gems on the way down South to Bend.
There are many great kick-ass & unimproved, Wilderness border roads all the way there.
And one GREAT (I mean GREAT !!) pavement twisty near the end,
with a very neat volcanic observatory at it's summit.

Edit: I plan to tent camp when I get to the Rally. I'd rather spend money on my bike/gas than in any Hotel/Motel

I'm in. where is a good place to camp? don't need hookups. would rather be away from the hoopla and ride in. i will have a truck camper, utility trailer with 3! ktm's. i will be on week two of a 7 week camping/motorcycle trip. i'm excited for my first rally and just signed up. thanks all-i'm looking forward to meeting some of my adv rider idols. geek? qwik? etc. by the way, geek, i would love to ride with you in oct in CO. i am old, fat, dumb, broke, and out of shape but i love to ride!
