Now your really getting close to home. My Mom was born in Pocahontas on Peeled Chestnut Mtn. and my Grandfather on her side work in the mines in that area Coaldale, Anawalt, Jenkin Jones ext.. I used to ride all over those crazy little roads on my XL250 and then later on on my XL600 and Radian 600. Those were the days. Really neat looking at maps of that area again. I will be in Princeton WV at the inlaws for Xmas may have to take a little trip over that way. Used to hunt in Burkes Garden had a friend with a cabin in the Walker gap/Garden Mtn area. Man your reports really make me miss home more than usual. Great report on the old Cranberry Iron mine, had the kids over at Tweetsie this summer and thought a lot about that old train and the history is has seen. Thanks again and Merry Christmas.

The area along the TN/NC border from the north edge of the Great Smokies Park to VA is beautiful and lightly touched Appalachia. And, it seems, lightly explored.

Thanks for exploring a bit of it.

    Hey Steve,

I've got a list of things to explore. Used the better part of a year to restore an antique moyorcycle, but I'll be back on the Appalachian history trail this fall.

Bump for a good ride report.Thinking about doing this soon and seeing what's up.I bet it's all been blocked off due to vandals and dope heads.
