Has anyone else done the Footmans loop modification recently? I am getting ready to do some drilling, but wanted to see if anyone had any problems with the footman loops recently.

Added some loops to a Vario top box over the weekend. Bought all the kit at a chandlers - so its guaranteed rust proof :D

Not sure we have one around here. Got the loops from strapworks. Powdercoated. Thinking of putting some epoxy or silicone in the holes to ward off leaks.

Use this stuff to ward off leaks:

This is permanent. If you think you need to take them off some day, use the 4200 sealant instead of the 5200.

So I put the footman loops onto my Vario panniers. I know the weight limit of putting things "in" the panniers is around 22lbs. Anyone figure out how much you can strap onto the Vario bags with the Rok Straps? Getting ready for our 1st 2 up camping trip and although I don't have all the light weight stuff, planning on strapping the tent to one pannier and my wife's sleeping pad to the other, along with her fleece sleeping bag. We're not going to be doing a lot of dirt but wondering just how much jarring that plastic will take........

I had a bunch of scuffs on my cases from lane splitting
They came off easily with a magic eraser (which I usually use to get scuffs off walls). If you use it make sure to clean the white juices off right away so it doesn't dry on it. I then used alcohol pads to clean the entire case afterwards which did a great job of shining it up and removed a ton of dirt that way.

I also applied 3M reflective vinyl. Another thread inspired me to do this.

Took me about 3 hours between last night and this morning.

Rear (these are cut and put on straight they just look a little angled because of the way the cases are leaning)

What bags are you using on top of your vario cases? Was thinking the dry spec 28 bags.
    Weight issues? Size looks perfect.

I currently have the 50L bag for the back but when I take my wife along she prefers to have the top case on so I was thinking to have thse on the side instead of the duffle on the back for times when she's with me.

I've watched this thread for a while ... I know creepster .... and I love the mods.

I've ways been very worried about putting any bags on top of the side cases because they just don't seem that strong.

How much weight do people put in a bag sitting on top of the side case?
Has anyone make a deck that extends over the side case to to carry heavier things like a RotoPax?

Any issues with added weight on those side cases?
I'm looking to pack in the same way when I travel with my wife.
When I'm alone I'm good to just have a large duffle on the bag and my top case.

I'm wondering the same thing. There seem to be very little comments about adding weight to the top of the Vario cases.

I'm concerned because entire case really has minimal support.
