I have them on my GSA and they get used a lot. Absolutely save lots of money that would have been spent on repairs without them. Traversed a a rock garden/dry water fall below Lake Arrowhead that would have destroyed the heads without them.

I'm coming down from Maine. Planning on two ten hour days so the bike will be in the back of the truck with knobbies as its a bit of a marathon in two days. Putting tires on tomorrow. Got the word doc from BMW describing the time schedule. Looks like the performance center on Friday and then the Gultches on Sat & Sunday. Tried to get some ADV Design crash bar extensions but they are out of stock. So I have lots of gaffers tape instead:evil

I know, I know, I'm about to change out to TKC's here for the first time using the Best Rest Bead Breaker and thought I'd better do it here then in the parking lot in Greer in case I totally flub up! :rofl

Also, I might be doing a marathon 19 hours back and want to avoid that on the bike. Maybe I'll park 20 miles out, drive through the mud, paste a couple hundred insects all over the place, and roll in with complete poseur glory! Actually, the real event will be getting a 600 lb bike out of the back of the truck if there are no gullies or big ditches...

I'm riding from cincy and am cool to meet and ride anywhere from here to sc. Based on the schedule that was posted it might be worth starting out Thursday afternoon and having a good nite around a fire 1/2 way. Anyone?

I've decided to put a new rear on before my 400 mile ride to SC to alleviate stress. Also to keep my front on that has 5k miles on it because I want to get back to the Heidenaus.

If someone disagrees with my strategy im all ears. I'm banking that a half worn front won't make a tangible difference in the way I ride.

    Brit,

I think you will be fine. I will have a new rear on but my front will have ~ 1000 miles. The fronts wear well and I never saw an appreciable difference until they get pretty worn.

Here is the way I break the beads using only three tire tools. Works well, but sometimes have to work my way around the tire until the bead breaks completely. I have found that it is harder using the big tire iron in the center vs a standard iron. Your results may vary: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=458452

Oh, and I use Dyna beads, they work great and no need for special balancing tools. Some people use air soft pellets but I haven't tried that.

I've been at the center. Boooooring! Plus I think we will be there the first night anyway. Let's keep it fresh by not doing 2 nights in a scenery-less field.
