Could be. But add to it that as well as having seat problems, the "short" 2013 bikes also had a problem with the Wolfman racks that didn't exist in earlier years.
For anyone that cares I ended up throwing a tie down over the seat pan (attached to foot pegs), sucked it down, and heated it....then left it like that for about 5 days. The pan held its shape and now easily latches. Seat Concepts Pan New Seat
http://www.mredsmoto.com/mredsmoto.htm Don is the craftsman and is quite good at what he does. This is my second seat from him and I haven't seen anything that compares.
Thanks for the link. I've got a Seat Concepts on mine, and after 8k miles, only have two things I think I'd change. Having it stay narrower longer coming from the front, and not having it be convex, or log shape where I'm sitting for logging miles on tar. I tend to sit pretty far forward on mine unless I'm logging tar miles. Didn't really think about that until I saw your seat lol. Guess I should talk about that to them.
I agree on all points. The human "rear" anatomy is happier on a flatter shape opposite of a log. I've already spent my considerable seat budget with Seat Concepts. Family must also eat. I haven't asked but rather doubt they'll re-shape it for us(me) without a huge re-foam and re-cover charge.
I've also been using a Giant Loop Coyote for the last 3 years and due to where I have it located on my bike, forward of the gas cap, I don't have to remove the bag to fuel. I normally sit fairly far forward or stand so it has never been an issue. I even run with a 1.8 gallon Jeri-can Bladder over the top and can move backward as far as I want when riding on pavement.
I found a couple that show more of where the Coyote and bladder "mount" on the bike. When fueling I do have to pull the bungee attached to the top of the bladder off the rear rack then roll the bladder forward on to the seat but that takes a 2 seconds. I put hooks in the bottom grommets on the bladder that loop around the strap of the Coyote to keep it in place. I'll keep looking to see if I can find something more close up.
Thanks but after looking at options I decided to go with the EVO2 tanks. BTW Nice job on the ROTOPAX mount.
My 2010 I bought used and came with an aftermarket seat that is made by a leading seat customizer in Japan, Noguchi, who has decades of experience making seats for Dakar rally bikes and many others. Recently Noguchi did the seats for the 2012 JCR Honda Baja 1000 team. This seat is rounded (not angled like the OEM). I also have a Renazco seat, which we're all familiar with. I prefer the Noguchi for day trips and plan to use the Renazco for longer trips where I may be doing more seat time.
Shot from Feb in Baja. I am using the KTM racks and Happy Trails Soft paniers. They have an aluminum backing that was originally made for HT proprietary racks, but I used TT mounts and the bags do not move. The roll down bags have a water proof liner and you can really cinch down all three attachment points. Rode silt beds, lots of sand washes, nothing ever got in the bags. Had about 15 lbs in each side. Close to 4,000 serious off road pounding in Baja without any issues. I also have a set of 7 " wide Aluminum panniers that lock, they hold about the same as the soft bag, just a taller profile. I use the bags for hard core two-track. I did ride the passes in Colorado and camped, the aluminum boxes are great for camping, a sea bag can be strapped to the lids for camp gear. My tail bag is Held bag that snaps on/off with four quick release latches. Gassing up is simple, release the two buckles closest to the gas cap and it pushes out of the way. I put a compression strap under the rack on the Held bag for Baja, hammering down some of the wash boards, ruts and whooped out Score sections, everything has to be buttoned down. I can skip a tank bag with this set up, a real pleasure since getting your head over the triple clamps makes everything smooth out. Picked up some stuff along the way and still had room in the bags for my warm gear - it was cold the first two days, Shot in Calamajue Wash on the homeward link. My Seat Concepts pin sheered after 650 miles, hence the crate strap. Waiting for the warranty replacement. Funny my stock pan with a custom seat has 10K + on it...... The hard bags before I installed the strap loops on the lids. and I used Jayco locking latches same as Jesse used I'm probably going to sell the hard panniers, I seem to been gravitating more toward the minimalist Baja style just hate to part with these one off babies.
Just a heads up for anyone who might be looking for a set of Wolfman side racks, RockyMountainATV still has 2 sets on hand. There were 3, but I just bought a set. These are no longer being manufactured and it's getting tough to find anyone who still has any left.
Ztrab-funny to see you affixed that laminar lip to the Hardparts touring windscreen. I have done the same thing using the Laminar Lip I bought awhile back for a 640A and mounted it up using that uber'strong 3M Dual Lock 6" long strips bought directly from Laminar Lip. Instead of mounting the Lip on the front side, I have the Lip on my bike mounted on the back side of the Hardparts Windscreen. I'm not a tall fella at 5'8", but as I sit on the bike, it's smoother, quieter, and the wind hits me at the chin/top of shoulder area at speed. Now, at 70 to 75 on the slab, it's a pretty alm affair and doesn't get overly busy from the wind management side of things until 80-85. Dirty
Yeah, I really liked that lip, it came off my HP2. I broke it (and my weak ass clavicle- 4th time-) when I parked my bike upside down after a mesquite limb wedged into my front wheel while riding a nose wheelie through the tree in the background, a bit off course..... I put an old Arai face shield on and it did a pretty good job. My Feb trip to Baja I tried the top of a GS windscreen but it was too big and not angled up enough on top. Wish I could find a used small Laminar Lip for those unavoidable asphalt runs home. I used to use the Daul lock, but since I never took it off unless it got ripped off on single track, I just screwed it on.
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I tried a search but was unsuccessful. Is the Nomadic top rack compatible with the Touratech Pannier rack? Thanks in advance, fellas.
My TT racks are not currently installed, but the main supports come in horizontally on the bracket at a level below the bracket-to-tank connection points. I believe they will work in combination, but will definitely require different spacers, probably two at each connection - one below and one above the TT bracket. I can provide you with TT offsets and tank spacer dimensions, if that would be helpful. I don't have anything on the tail rack. I don't run one.
Yep, it works great. No additional spacers needed. I did get longer Stainless bolts from mcmaster-carr to account for the thickness of the nomadic rack. I will try to get the part number soon. I'll post some photos when I can. I must be in f*#&ING noob status.
