Who is doing the work / repair / miracle? Where will it be stationed? Drivers need a CDL? Gonna pull a trailer for the bikes? :eek1 Would like a breakdown of $$$ contribution amounts for each level. Arbitrary decisions from others on amounts over $20 of my money I do not get involved with. If it is a joke and I'm wooshed, it was fun anyway...
Who is doing the work / repair / miracle? Us noobs with bailing wire Where will it be stationed? Somewheres in Tulsa or Stroud Drivers need a CDL? I do not think so Gonna pull a trailer for the bikes? :eek1 Maybe you got one? Would like a breakdown of $$$ contribution amounts for each level. Arbitrary decisions from others on amounts over $20 of my money I do not get involved with. Humm not sure yet, depends on how many owners we can round up. If it is a joke and I'm wooshed, it was fun anyway... It should be a joke but I am stupid enough to put such a plan together
by the time y'all bolt down all the ice chests and mount the stripper pole, there will be no place for anyone to sit nor room for any work benches :huh
I put a hitch on our bus (the Pete's Tailgate Posse bus) for less than $30. Easy peasy with some junk steel and some items from Harbor Freight. A small trailer wouldn't be a bad idea to maximize the cargo options. Three bikes on a trailer and three inside would be a workable option, IMHO. Confirmed- NO CDL required as long as there are not seats for more than 15 including driver. I don't know if there have to be fixed seats or not. We get approximately 10-12* mpg (gasoline) in ours hauling humans and tailgating junk (a bit lighter than half a dozen motorcycles and humans). * I've asked several people and nobody seems to know this answer. I'll update if I can. Updated.
One of my old riding buddies had a bus like that. He cleverly cut and hindged the left rear corner, so that both the entire assembly and the e-exit door opened like a pair of double doors. He could ride his quads right into the back, and the rest was finished out with cabinets, kitchen, and bunks.
That's a Damn Sexy ride! As far as a CDL, if memory serves correct, I'm thinking no, because it's not being used as a "passenger transport", if it's loaded with equipment, tools, bikes, etc. If you're transporting passengers, (other than the motorcycle owners/riders whose bikes are bing transported), you may be getting into CDL territory. It's been a while since I was taught the CDL requirements. If the load capacity is over 26,000# (GVWR) it will require a CDL A, regardless of passengers. I think if you're 15 passengers or less and under GVWR of 26,000#, there's no need for a CDL. I'll be a bus whore if I can ever get time-off to go ride more than an hour at a time. Hell I'll even whip out my badge and claim group stupidity if we get stopped by an over-zealous jr. Trooper who does know the CDl req's better. -Joe
As a former school bus driver, you need a CDL if it has air brakes. Many of the small buses do not but make sure. Tires are expensive and those look close to dead. That bus looks like a gas. I wouldn't touch it unless its a diesel. Mileage sucks. You'd be better off with a really big trailer and pay a guy with a F-250 to pull it.
As a former bus owner. You don't need a CDL. You only need a CDL if you're hauling for hire. For any type of personal use. It's just another car. Man, That's going to be a project. Here's mine.. 1972 Superior. 25' 39K miles. Less than 300 on the 5KW Onan. If you need help let me know. Lindy says I can't have any more vehicles. John
No air brakes. Drums. 6 bikes at <500lbs each is only 3000lbs. But some of this weight would be on the trailer axle(s). In stock form, it probably seated 32 students in 2 rows of 8 seats and 2 to a seat. If it were used to haul the Stroud football team at 200lbs a pop (which it could surely do, both legally and logistically), then we're hauling about 6400lbs. I don't think weight will really be an issue with 6 bikes and riders plus gear. Just my generic logic math.
Quote Mr. Disaster: As a former school bus driver, you need a CDL if it has air brakes. Many of the small buses do not but make sure. Tires are expensive and those look close to dead. Far from it, in terms of recreational milage, they do not even have cracks in the sidewall which i expected. That bus looks like a gas. I wouldn't touch it unless its a diesel. I would prefer diesel as well but this engine has been serviced well by the local school district. Mileage sucks. You'd be better off with a really big trailer and pay a guy with a F-250 to pull it. Yea but will that guy let a bunch of inmates paint his truck random colors and make all kinds of custom mods and will it be a chick magnet.....I don't think so.
