The engine of my Xchallenge is stronger than that of the KTM 690 Rally!

If this is a homogenized version of the RR, then it has somewhat less then the power you where hoping for.

    <table align="Left" border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="580"><tbody><tr><td valign="top" width="25%">Displacement:</td><td>654.00 ccm (39.91 cubic inches)</td></tr><tr><td valign="top" width="25%">Engine type:</td><td>Single cylinder, four-stroke</td></tr><tr><td valign="top" width="25%">Power:</td><td>62.08 HP (45.3 kW)) @ 7500 RPM</td></tr><tr><td valign="top" width="25%">Torque:</td><td>64.00 Nm (6.5 kgf-m or 47.2 ft.lbs) @ 6000 RPM

    </td></tr></tbody></table>

The latest factory racing bikes with 730ccm where putting out 71+hp,

I just find it odd that you would compare a built bike to a stock bike and be disappointed. And also your first post was a little deceptive.

I imagine that if you put the engine alone on a dyno you will achieve closer to the claimed numbers. Brake hp vs wheel hp is usualy different by about 20% to 30%.

If you want to start messing about with the bike to get those sort of numbers (or greater) I know a man who can help you. Probably not much use to you though as he lives near me.

Well the way i read it, that is the spec sheet for the 690 Factory Rally, not the RR (Rally replica). so there will be a difference in power, up the 690 from 660cc to 710cc (±8% increase) and supporting mods to par with the bmw and you will see an increase in power close to your 70hp BMW, if not more.

Also I think KTM has won a few rally because of reliability vs bmw history of the 650 motor on reliability

So your highly modified and tuned BMW makes more Hp than a stock standard KTM. Your point is?

    @Roarin,

""So your highly modified and tuned BMW makes more Hp than a stock standard KTM. Your point is? ""

You mean a modified tuned BMW with 70 HP
are Stronger like a KTM Rallye Bike with 70 HP??

    70 HP are 70 HP !

Not really sure what this thread is trying to prove. From what I can make out, a guy has a KTM and BMW and prefers the BMW. I would think it's safe to say that the BMW engine is stronger in terms of durability and the KTM puts out more power as standard.
Personally I have seen problems with KTMs and lousy customer service, the single cylinder Beemers are pretty safe bets so I can live with the fact that the orange peril has an edge on me if I ride against one.
BMWs main strength (in my opinion) is the brilliant electronic management system which self tunes for mods, petrol grades and other conditions without any hassle. KTM are competition machines, passionate and have lovely parts manufactured to a higher cost. I don't think this makes either of them a better bike but it does mean one or other will be more suited to individual tastes.
If the thread is trying to say the BMW is more powerful as standard then that's clearly garbage. It might feel quicker due to gearing or lack of up-front plastic but performance figures don't bear out this claim. If the OP means the BMW is a more solid engine then I agree.

    Awesome stable!

I liked the BMW but didn't want the airbag suspension. It's a shame they didn't stick with it. Fueling was awesome and even though it was a 5-speed it has a nice wide-range tranny and a reliable, proven engine.

I'd love to get one that's been sorted.

Yesterday I was extra in Austria, with one of the best KTM tuner in the world???
I really wanted to know if my feeling is the same as the Dyno said.
And the whole is even worse than I thought.
I was expecting about 60 HP, the dyno showed only 43.4 HP.
In a conversation with the tuner, he showed me some other curves from KTM RR.
And ????? all have no power, same disaster.
I feel like a lamb to the slaughter.
Now I will install the Orange Bastard 750cc, 85 HP min
and 90nm torque, by low Upm, max 7500 rpm.
And then there is a real motorcycle, and not just a show bike.

There must be something wrong with your bike, or some sort of hp restriction. This power is fcr'd drz400 territory.

I agree that there is something strange about your bike. I think that last year the 690 Rally bikes had to run restricted at least at Dakar. Could this be it? I have owned a Honda XR650L, KLR-650, and now my KTM 690r. Also I have my RC51 which dynoed at 120hp on a known pessimistic dyno. I have had a Suzuki Hayabusa and a Suzuki GSXR-1000. So I have a rough idea of what hp feels like and my 690r feels pretty fast. It sure as hell makes more than 43.4 hp! Seems like most 690s dyno in the mid 50s? Check to see if there is a restrictor plate!

The previous owner didn't tell you he shoehorned in an XC 150 piston in the 690 before you bought it?

    The engine is completely dismantled.
Nowhere, power reduction, the carburetor is original.
Currently, it is to me no matter what shit engine KTM built.
I think in 3 weeks is my project finished.
