Large Ortlieb Dry Bag on F800GS

Anyone use the large (4700 CU IN) Ortlieb dry bag? I am wondering if it is too big and if I should go with the medium instead. I just ordered Touratech Zega Pro Panniers and I also have their large aluminum luggage rack. Any photos or input of your dry bag setup on your tail end would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I will say this, these are not my first drybags. But I would consider them the best because of the tie down points and the weatherproof ziplock. I met someone that has had the same drybag for 20yrs and still looked new(diver not motorcyclist).

Still one of my best purchases.

I like the fact that they are fully submersible.

I'm curious how far away from civilization are you going that you want three sets of tires?
Or do you just like easier wheelies?

I have the stock Adventure bags on my F800 and I put the large Ortleib across the back seat and over them. I went to South America and back with three bungees holding it on. Worked fine. Dave

front tires will last at least twice as long as backs.

When packing, you will always fill all available space.

If the Zega Pros aren't enough, I'd consider the smallest bag you can get away with. Less space --> less stuff --> better handling --> happier ride.

I figure I should be able to throw sleeping and riding gear in the big bag. I think I might just go with a few smaller bags that I can pack on the top of the panniers for lower center of gravity.

I used the 89l bag for the last two years, and it's great. It fits a LOT of stuff, and is 100% waterproof. Ortlieb is definitely the best. I have, however, this year bought the 49l bag; I want to limit what I carry - it was getting a little silly the amount I was carting around! I, too, have panniers as well. The Ortlieb is basically for all my camping gear (tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, camping chair!) and the panniers for everything else. Whilst I don't subscribe to the thinking that I should only carry a cable tie and a toothbrush, I'm also trying to travel a little lighter.

Whichever you choose, Ortlieb bags are great.

The set on there is almost done for... 1 for a quick change then the 2nd... was the the inevitable.

I feel my packing is quite efficient... just tell me my destination and time frame based the stuff I am taking.

We have the ZEGA pro panniers as well and are traveling with a medium Ortlieb bag. It's strapped on the back seat with a kermit chair on top and you can still open the panniers when the bike is fully loaded. We love it

The wife and have both. The large is VERY LARGE as you can see on my 800 but it works for us. The medium is a nicer size if you can make it work for you.

Awesome, this is exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a large and I also ordered one of These. I figure I would try it out and if it doesn't work on my 800 I will give it to my brother's wife for her Monster.

Ortlieb 49L

I've got 2x30 litre Overboard bags, they are so similar to the Ortliebs I wouldn't be surprised if they came out of the same factory. They were £31 delivered for both together and have survived two 300 mile motorway journeys in pouring rain without a drop of water coming in.

I use a 35L Ortlieb dry bag. They are what everyone used when I used to white water kayak. It's a good bet when they keep stuff dry when you sink a boat that they'll be okay on the back of a bike. Unlike many made-for-motorcycling "waterproof" products. It's far cheaper than motorbike-specific products too.

It's a good shape, two Rokstraps tie it down securely across the pillion seat.
