Haven't been down there yet... but I was up over Etna and Cecilville summits in the Trinities yesterday. (Salmon River)
The side roads (unplowed) were all covered with snow.
There was a bit of snow/ice on the main roads (which were plowed) too.

I'm thinking they back roads are likely 'snowed in' till later this year.

I would plan for either turning around or making the best of the snow. You're above 5000ft for about 10-15 miles there will be snow especially ont he North facing slopes

I've been through in early November 2011 and had about 10miles or 6" of snow. Knobbies helped but just rode slow. Look out for brown ice...frozen mud puddles. You can't really see them but they see you and are very angry.

Nothing like coming around a corner hot and in a split second being put on your A$$

Thanks for the info. I figured with the warmer weather we had over the last few weeks with almost no precip that things would be OK. Trying to avoid having to go around the mountain via Sonoma/Napa/Lake county.

Found out the hard way.... Still enough snow in the shade to make it unpasaable as of yesterday.

FH7 is usually not plowed through until first or second week of May.

It'll depend also on who does the plowing, Forest Service ? .. with the Feds being sequestered, and employees being furloughed, who knows when it'll get done. I heard Yosemite might be delaying plowing as much as a month later than usual ...

It may be too late now, but for stuff like this I highly recommend picking up the phone and calling a nearby ranger district, either stonyford or covelo. The front desk person will likely know what's up on the major forest roads like fh7.
My guess is that it's open now, but I haven't been there this year.
