Does anyone know if a throttle control setup will work with this combo of hand guard and bar weight? If so how well does it work? I am hoping for the type that mounts on the end of the bar like the Kaoko Cruise Controls.
That looks like the Touratech handguard and the standard OEM bar weight. If so, the Kaoko, which is what I have, works fine with them. David
No pics of mine available but the Wunderlich throttle lock as shown in the link works just fine with the Touratech handguards on my F800GS. http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/mm...A&Product_Code=8166102&Category_Code=F800GS-X
no offense to Wunderlich but I've owned that one and the Kaoko and the Wunderlich sucks in comparison.
Kaoko makes three models. Make sure you order the correct one. IIRC (don't quote me), the variants are: barkbusters OEM guards (ie: the guards made for the 800gs, not the 1200gs) No guards. I THINK the OEM guards is OEM/Touratech, not sure (I have OEM guards). It should be obvious which one to order if you look at the descriptions.
If you have the Touratech plastic hand guards the standard (stock) Kaoko CC is the one that works. I have this setup and it has worked out perfectly. For me the key was getting the friction setting just right with the included hex key. It now adjusts easily just using my outer finger and yet does not drift off like when it is too free. You will like it.
What makes the Kaoko better for me is that I engage it on and off it the same direction as I roll on and off the throttle. In other words, when I decelerate while gripping the Kaoko, I disengage the lock. The Wunderlich works in the opposite direction, which means that you could be in a situation where you suddenly need to decelerate, and the Wunderlich would be working against you, i.e., locking the throttle ever tighter. That design makes it something of a safety hazard, IMO. I can't imagine what the design engineers at Wunderlich were thinking. David
Thank you all for your input! Next question. How do I retrofit KLR650 directional controls on a F800.
Bingo! David's got it... also the Kaoko has wider spaced threads for engagement and disengagement so you don't have to 'spin' it as much.... plus the knobs are bigger and wider spaced so it's easier to roll it off and on.
Oh... I wish someone told me that about 5 months ago. Thanks for squaring me away Anyone want to trade Wunderlichs for Kaokos?
I might take you up on that! except I have the OEM BMW handguards... Anyone have issues getting the Kaoko to work with the BMW guards? See my post here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=564379 Shameless BUMP
I don't see it mentioned in your post, Darren, but do you have the Kaoko throttle lock specifically configured for the BMW OEM hand guards (model #CCF900), and not the standard model #CCF700? David
Yes that is the one! It is a different piece with no bar end weight on it. I am working on pics right now... updating my thread!
David, I got my Kaoko working, and I can completely see how this makes sense now. I cannot picture it the other way... works like a charm!
Cool! How'd you finally get the Kaoko to fit with your OEM guards? Edit: Never mind. I saw your other post. David
