We leave a week from this Monday.(2/16) but I just wanted to get started. The riders Pics to be posted at a later date. We are Going down for My Birthday. I figure that's a good excuse for a thousand miles or so of Baja dirt, sand, silt, and rocks. My first time doing Baja so I'm really looking forward to it. So, the riders are Tim/Qwik, 950ADV, Bert/Big Nasty BRP, 990ADVS, Dave/Michelle/DHeimer, and his Girlfriend/990ADV, Kevin/Mariah/DeCon and his girlfriend, 990ADV Baja, Steven/Michelle/Yamadak13R and his wife/ 13Multistrada on TKC80s, Donovan/Hollywood, BMW GS1200, and a couple other possibles. Crossing over at Tecate on Tuesday the 17th and then shooting down to San Felipe for Feesh Tacos and Cervezas. The only one of the main group that has been down there is Big Nasty(My Brother) so he has done me the favor of doing the homework of rough planning the riding. I'm really looking forward to roosting a little Baja sand and soil. I personally have done about. $1600 in mods to my bike getting it ready for the trip. Oberon slave/Spacer, CJDesigns Clutch reservoir, Garmin Montana 600/Ram Mount, SE Frame guards, 908RR rear tire and Scorpion Rally front, Wolfman Expedition Bags, some Misc. Tools, Rigid 6"spot/flood combo and custom CJDESIGNS bracket, new chain and Sprockets, new Boots and gloves for me, and a whole bunch of Steekers for the kids and Slim Jim's for the Federales.
Have a blast. Thirteen of us just got back from Baja last weekend. We rode approx 975 total miles -better than half in the dirt. There was very little dust. My air filter is still red (Unifilter) which is unbelievable. Do your best not to ride at night either on or off road. There are numerous unmark hazards. Heading west towards Scorpian Bay at night (10 hours or so on the bikes), one of our guys narrowly missed falling off the side of the road as it was missing. A huge chunk of the pavement had been washed away in a flood and he shot passed it at about 50MPH -missing it by about 8 inches. In November a riders friend fell into an unmarked dirt hole at slow speed at night. He was unhurt and they got the bike out but there are thousands of unmarked hazards. Do your research and look into your routes, if you are on larger adventure bikes. We went on a road, can't remember the name right now, that last year was a dirt road and this year was more like the Rubicon Trail. The recent hurricane washed it away. We were on Honda XRs and a KTM 690 and it was very difficult. The people were super cool and the food and beer was great. Have a great time.
Are you trying to get me killed before we even start!!?? I thought we were better friends than that. My girlfriends name is SHELLY, not Michelle, and shes a redhead, so you know IM already in trouble because you named some other girl. Im likely going to get stabbed in the night long before we ever get to Mexico, thanks buddy. :huh And another with Donovan and I with his tractor last fall.
Ok the ride has started, Idaho riders and the Mormon duck riding made man and co-pilot have started south. I thought I would add a few pictures from my last trip. this guy call me a pussy but at the time I was cool with it. Baja is calling me back Baja phone charging station and beer stop this would be why Coco called me a pussy I was not riding I had three broken ribs and cracked T6. I hope this ride goes better.
We were on the road at waytozerodarkearly this morning. My poor dog thought we were on our way duck hunting. It was somewhere around 30 degrees and now about 75 miles north of Vegas it's 70 and sunny! Yay, finally t-shirt weather.
After you get stabbed, will she be needing another man? Not good to let a beautiful redhead go to waste[emoji12]
Well after checking and double checking luggage for any sharp objects that may be carried by Shelly I decided I was safe. We are currently at the Marine Base, MCRD in San Diego. I graduated boot camp here 27 years ago, spent 21 years in the Marine Corps and this was the first time I have ever set foot back on the base.....first thing was first, had to get a squared away Marine hair cut. Seemed strange to get a haircut here when my first Marine haircut was on this base so many years ago. Tomorrow morning we cross the border.
Ok I rode down from San Jose Sunday morning 101 to 58 to pozo back on 58 then down through the carrizo plain. Then out to 5 and down to San Diego. After getting lost I stopped outside the gate to call Dave and got a Marine with a shot gun asking me to pull up to the gate. That's when the night got going. After that they took me to paradise bar and we go three sheets to the wind. It was ugly with hot girl on girl, just I use the hot part very very loosely.
Made it to Ensenada with a super easy border crossing. Sittin in a room at Estero beach resort. A few beers and margaritas in and feelin no pain. Pics will be posted when I have something a little faster than dial up speeds wifi
let me intro Michelle, our bartender from Marine base MCRD. michelle almost came along for the ride. We almost had her talked into taking some vacation andjumping on a bike for a week. Too bad she didn't as she would have been fun to have along. Here was apic from that very strange night in a very strange bar in san Diego calledParadise. Michelle later invitedus all out with her to a bar in town that turned into one of the strangest bar nights am sure will have on this trip as mentioned briefly by Bert in an earlier post. michelle and Quenenie anotherlady working there were able to get us into the restricted training are, receiving area on base with the help of the Provost Marshall office and took picsof Donovan Andi standing on the infamous yellow footprints. I can't thank them enough.
