I was riding home from work yesterday when I ran out of gas with my bike. The range until empty showed 11 miles. I had gone 208 miles since filling up and the low fuel light came on about 25 miles before I ran out. The fuel gauge recall was done and it was replaced the day I bought the bike. It still acts a little funny though. On a full tank I can go about 100-110 miles before and it will still show a full tank. Then the last 90 miles or so it goes from full to empty. Luckly my sister brought me 1/2 gallon to get me to the gas station. So now I know don't trust the miles til empty!

That is normal. You will get it figured out with more time. The tank level reads full for the first half and then drops quickly. Mine is very accurate to the end. I get 200 to 240 mile range.

Your friend el Manuel will tell you: when the fuel light comes on, refuel.

Don't push it when that fuel light comes on. The design of the fuel system on this bike is not meant to be run down to empty, or even 10 miles to fill. It could potentially harm the fuel pump. That said, I regularly get 200 miles to a tank by the time the fuel light comes on.

Want a cookie??? Oh no 11 miles indicated on a 208 mile tank. My SV only has a warning light no gauge and I never ran out. What person runs their vehicle to less than 5% and expects to get to a gas station??? Even my honda civic can't indicate more accurately than 15%.

    Seriously wtf:huh

I have the opposite problem. My light comes on and I will let it run down to under 10 miles and I still have over a gallon of gas left in the tank. It way underestimates my range. I use my odometer and always fill up around 180 miles.

My fuel light comes on with about .7 gal left in tank. Anyone know what the usable amount of the tank is? I usually go by my odometer and I try to fuel up by 180 miles.

Most I ever filled up with when I was pushing it (try not to do that too often) was 3.95 gallons at the pump. I think you can stuff 4.1 or 4.2 in there...

Edit: by pushing it I didn't mean pushing it on foot to the pump lol

Saw this 5.3 gallon tank at the Long Beach MC show.

Should help reduce the number of times you have to look at the gage. And only$$$$1900!!!!!!!!

There was a recall on the fuel level sensor, mine had the same problem showing lots of fuel when there was none and vice versus. After the recall repair its all good now.

I had the same problem with my 07 R1200 GS Adventure.
It took four visits to the dealership to get it sorted out, but now it works perfecty.

But I've heard of other bikes being even more inacurate.
You paid for the trip computer, you should try and get it working correctly.

    You did two mistakes:
    1. trust a fuel gauge on a motorcycle
    2. post about it on a motrocycling forum :D
BTW, 11 miles in 208 miles is around 5% accuracy. Seems good enough to me ...
