Most trailers I have got, get sprayed with farm implement enamel thinned with laquer thinner. Easy peasy

Tractor enamal brushed on. Super durable, but takes forever to dry if not using some hardener.

I've used it on the trailer, snowplows, and if course, the tractor.

+1 for Eastwoods, in particular the rust encapsulator , I'v had success with both the spray and paint. I used both in the past month and have used the paint since the 90's. Used the spray on my new raw metal bumper and the paint when touching up my Versa Hauler (hitch mounted bike hauler).

Here's a pix of the black spray on my homemade step bumper.

+ 2 on Valspar tractor paint, but sprayed .......the flow out is remarkable. I agree it can be forced dried by heating.

+3 on EASTWOOD paint products. Chassis black in all gloss ranges is excellent. It comes in an epoxy version too. Rust incapsulate is a great primer.

I used POR15 on mine. Works great if you have some rust.

Oh my gosh Jim! You showed a license plate on the interwebz. The black helicopters will be there soon!

On a lighter note when I replaced the deck wood on my utility trailer I just picked up a gallon of rustoleum black. Everything is black with new wiring and lights. Ain't pretty but its cheap to touchup as I beat the hell out of it.

Knock off the flaky rust, and spray with OSPHO. Once that drys, good ol' Rustoleum.

POR-15, Don't get it anywhere other than where you want it, if it gets on your hands you'll have to wait for the skin to peel off to get it off.

Did my boat trailer with 2 cans of Rustolium Industrial. Been looking good for 2 years now. No primer, no prep work, just spray it on. Used on a few other projects as well. Been finding it to be a really good spray bomb. Most other spray bombs are after a price point, the industrial line has quality as the main feature. Limited selection of colors, but enough for most trailers.

Did you have any other specifications for the paint?

por-15 or kb-coatings. many ap box stores stock one or other. they have many paints that are purpose formulated. spend some time reading about them, then choose. call their tech lines if need be. part of my point is that those are brands not just one coating by that name. my trailer has been painted with the leftover base coats from my ab work-some was mixed colors too. do you know an ab shop person-cheap paint.

+1 I used Rustoleum Rusted Metal Primer and a black top coat and my trailer looked like new. I only used a wire brush attachment in my 4: grinder for surface prep.

When I redid my little trailer, I used some bed liner with rubber granules. It's holding up well.

I have always had good luck with the bed liner paint. It holds up well to dings and had better grip if the trailer is wet. If you have a big trailer it can get pricey so I would only use it where rocks and dings will happen.

Used POR15 two part epoxy on a boat trailer. Brushed it on. Self-leveling, gives a nice durable finish and cleans up easy. Looked like it was sprayed. POR15 doesn't have any UV protection so don't use it as a top coat. The two-part epoxies are good to go.
