If they want to get exempted from the helmet laws (in states that have them) they need to have some kind of safety standard that they can point to and say they met it. OTOH, a lot of the reason these companies are focusing on three wheel vehicles, is to dodge the safety requirements that they cannot meet without adding a ton of weight and a ton of paperwork. If you're going to do all this stuff anyway, why not just have four wheels?

From the Elio website...

Instead of balking at the idea of more rules, Elio supports the legislation. Its CEO, Paul Elio, is quoted in Vitter’s press release, saying the bill would not only “provide consistency across all jurisdictions, but it strongly supports [Vitter’s] efforts to bring jobs back to the Shreveport area” where Elio plans to build its cars. Maybe that’s because the company is going after federal funding to build its vehicles, and working with a senator helps. Maybe they think they can convince people to buy their product if it meets more stringent rules. And maybe they’re confident the Elio will already meet those standards, so it’s not a big deal for them, but it will make things harder for the competition, like the Toyota i-ROAD.

Many people would choose an affordable enclosed trike like this for HOV lane usage.

This thread needs a reality check.

There have not been any vehicles sent for crash testing as that would require production that has yet to happen. What has been is computer modeling.

Enjoy

Has anyone stated otherwise?

Sent from the voices in my head and transcribed their drinking buddy.

I am not a believer in Elio but don't think you have to crash test three wheeled motorcycles.

Me thinks Elio is just blowing more smoke to get more none refundable deposits from the believers in Santa Claus.
