I've put mine up for sale because it doesn't have anough air flow with the visor closed. My own breath is fogging the visor up even with the pinlock working good now. This happens when it is normal wheater on a 2013 GS with standard screen. It's not just fogging up but the moister buildup makes the screen realy wet. The pinlock design is not good. This is confirmed bij Shoei - according to my dealer who has solved it for me. The pinlock would not seal by the pinlock pins. The workaround is to bent the suspension from the pinlock. I mean the part of the pinlock that goes into the pins on the visor. In the future this will be solved with different pinlock-pins. So although the pinlock does it's job now i find the moisture buildup is to high (in my case). I did find the helmet very quiet and the visor did close very good in heavy rain. It was also very comfortable to wear. Also the top-vent was able to flow a ton of air across the top of my head. I am really sorry i have to sell it.
Got it. Amazing helmet, really glad I spent the money. Going to use it tomorrow, dry but cool. I'll see if I experience the fogging issue pklop described. One minor quibble others noted, the "city" position of the visor is just barely cracked open. I actually thought it was the closed position at first. I don't know if this will flow enough air to defog the visor. The Hornet has a good half click and it will mostly self defog in that position.
Quiet, people aren't kidding when they say this helmet is quiet. Had been having a lot of wind buffeting noise with the 19" windshield on the sporty and the old RF-R. The GT Air turned that loud buffeting into a hiss of passing air. Fit a bit snug when I first put it on but after an hour the foam in the liner took a compression set and the fit was ideal. Left the visor in the city position the whole ride, only fogged in stop and go traffic or at stoplights, I've had that with every helmet. Won't be an issue in summer with the chin curtain out. Big price tag but you get what you pay for. My Hornet turns four next spring and it has years of service left.
Just wanted to pass along that Revzilla has these back in stock today. Just ordered the matt black in a size medium (as I wear that size for the RF1100) and I hope it isn't too tight.
Got mine last night in the mail from revzilla , I gotta say at first try I was going to return it because it felt pretty tight. Like I thought my ears were coming off with the helmet tight. Anyway I wore it around the house for a bit today and there were no hot spots so I took it for100 mile or so ride. Love the helmet and I'm keeping it. The tight neck really cuts down the wind noise. Also it was almost 90 degrees here today and the vents are pretty awesome. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
dont forget if the tightness is not around your crown, then its okay. order a set of thinner cheek pads for not much money. I have a reasonable square face but otherwise a shoei head (more rounded than oval)- not the ideal candidate for GT Air, but with thinner cheek pads, it's great. cheers
I've had this helmet for about a week now and I'm really impressed with it. I'm coming off an HJC FS-15 which, for the money, is a pretty decent helmet. Pros: + Internal sun visor. Easy to operate with gloves. + Visor dent positions are strong + Airflow across the top of the head is great + Fits my oval head great + Comes with a pinlock + Different size cheek pads available ($$$$) Cons: + Chin strap button is way too high. Makes it awkward to snap the excess chin strap + What's with the red tab on the double D ring?? First thing I cut off. + Comes with a pinlock. WTF is wrong with anti-fog coating? Has worked great on my HJC for years with no issues. + Expensive + First vent position is a bit tight. Could be open a bit more
:huh Uh.... I might be mistaken, but I believe that's part of the emergency quick release system, used by paramedics to get your noodle out of the strainer quickly. You might not have wanted to cut that off.....
You are mistaken. You're talking about the tab to quickly pull out the cheek pads. He's talking about the tab attached to the D rings. I think the tab on the d rings is supposed to help separate them. I can't see any other use. I've never used it and don't feel the need. OTOH its never bothered me either so I haven't cut mine off. Won't hurt a thing if you do tho...
Visor seals tightly, but the airflow holes in the helmet flow air efficiently. This helmet redefines best in class touring helmet for me. No regrets after 9 months.
Correct, I removed the small red strap from the d rings not the cheek pads. It was in the way. Either way, I installed a quick clip system so it's moot. Dave...
I'm a serial Arai buyer but grew weary of the noise and shield change mechanism, otherwise the right ones fit and feel great on me. I wanted to buy a Schuberth C3P based on how quiet it was when I wore but it in the store but it didn't fit me at all, so I tried on the Neo and the GT Air and found the GT Air a better fit, almost like my Arais. I got my GT Air (Regalia graphics) this Wednesday and have worn it three times for a total of about ten hours. It's comfortable albeit a bit tight around my cheeks, but not more so that a new properly fitted Arai. I expect it will loosen up a bit with use as former helmets have. Pluses: I like the sun shield and this helmet flows air like no other I've ever owned, really excellent. As for noise, it is somewhat quieter than my Arai. Fit, finish and function are superb, equal to any of my Arais. I really like being able to take the shield off for thorough cleaning and inspection without feeling like I'm breaking the pods, and the lock and five position click stops suit me fine. Sight lines and visibility are excellent, weight and general aerodynamics are also very satisfying for my upright riding position. All controls, levers, vents work easily and positively though they took some getting used to. Ventilation and sightlines are excellent, very suited to my style of riding. Niggles: 1. I immediately installed the pinlock shield (Northwest riding conditions) and it works but is not an unmitigated success. I believe it subtracts a degree of ultimate clarity from what is otherwise an optically excellent shield system. It's subtle, so I'll live with it in for a bit and see how it goes. 2. The strap snap (to secure the loose end) is poorly located and difficult to engage. 3. Noise is improved over my last helmet, but I too have a whistle, especially if I turn my head to the right. I don't seem to get it when turned to the left (weird, huh?). To be honest, I was hoping it would be a bit quieter, but apart from the whistle it is an improvement but not a total solution. 4. Eyeglass insertion is a bit more difficult than on my last helmet, and is a bit of a hassle, perhaps something I will also get used to. My glasses are always hard to fit in and were not bought with riding in a helmet in mind. My next pair will be different, with straighter arms for easier insertion. All told, I'm quite happy and trust that this helmet will become a new favorite in time. Not perfect, but really quite nice, and the sun shield and airflow will be very appreciated in warm riding.
I desperately wanted to like this helmet. I don't like wearing modular lids anymore, but I miss the integrated sunshade. I generally have a Shoei shaped head, so I was really hopeful. RF-1000, RF-1100, Qwest (my current helmet), all fit great. This one, not so much. There's a pressure spot on the top of my head towards the front. Pretty much ruled it out immediately. I actually wonder if the pocket for the sunshade was causing this pressure spot. Odd thing about the helmet though: The XL and XXL both felt almost the exact same. Only difference between the two I could feel was in the cheek pads.
